Hello all!
The Sports Blog has been quiet for a while but please do see the latest news on our twitter page. We are still attending different competitions and participating in lots of different exciting projects, . Sport is a huge part of our ethos and we will continue to develop it throughout our curriculum! New sports blog posts coming soon- but in the meantime keep an eye on our twitter page! :) Year 1/2 Multi-Sports competition tonight at St.Mary’s and St Michaels was absolutely fantastic! We have such talented younger children. Big thank you to Miss Clough for organising this event! A big thankyou to Jahid and the PE team at MAS for allowing us to run a Tower Hamlets Girls cricket club for the past few months at Mulberry Academy Shoreditch, It’s been a great opportunity for all involved and we hope that our Year 6 students will carry on in secondary school.
Incredibly proud of the children who represented VPS today at the Ks2 Basketball Competition held at Mulberry Academy Shoredicth! The team came third overall - such an achievement.
Special mention to Ijaz and Labiba for their excellent teamwork skills. Huge well done to our dance club for their great performance this afternoon. Eki is really proud of the way you have all pushed yourself out of your comfort zones. Each week seemed to be such fun! A wonderful end to the half term!
Congratulations to our girls football team who were worthy runners up at the E1 football tournament held at Mulberry Academy Shoreditch - Everyone played with good determination and strong team work! You are getting better each competition and I am so proud of you all! Emily The Year 5/6 Boys and Girls football teams had their first matches this term. The boys were defeated in the knockouts after a great few games. The girls team excelled all the way to the finals, with not a single game lost however they eventually became runners up as they lost in the a very intense sudden death shootout! I am so proud of everyone involved - I can tell this year is going to be a great one! Boy of the match - Aman (for excellent defending) Girl of the match - Zaynah ( for amazing goalkeeping) 2017-2018 Every year I write on this page to express how proud I am of the children for going above and beyond. This year has been no different. 2017-2018 has been filled with many achievements, lots of new exciting learning and memorable sport trips. One of my favourite memories from this year was taking Year 6 to Wembley to watch the SSE Women's FA Cup Final. Our children are so passionate for Sport at VPS and I have seen such an improvement in how the children interact with each other during sessions in PE, Pitch and the playground. We received great curriculum support lessons from THYSF and the staff have really made an effort to deliver high quality PE lessons. Year 1 have especially been a joy to watch during their PE lessons...I can see some rising stars brewing! I would also like to congratulate all the classes who have stepped out of their comfort zones and achieved their target of swimming over 25m! We had some children who swam 500m and above. We have taken part in many competitions throughout the year and have also participated in a few friendlies hosted by Bigland Green. The children love the chance to challenge other schools and it is a great way to motivate the children and focus them on reaching a good result. Pitch time is used to train for competitions and I am always so impressed with how much effort the children put in! The Sports Leaders have been a HUGE part of how well our students have performed this year due to their dedication and leadership skills. I am very grateful to have had such an incredible team helping me out. You are all stars and I know you will be a credit to any team/project you become a part of at secondary school. Our main achievements this year as as follows: 1st Place - Tower Hamlets Girls Indoor Kwik-Cricket Competition took place at UEL Sports Dock. 2nd Place - Handball THYSF - Langdon Park (Silver Medallists) 1st Place - Tower Hamlets Girls Outdoor Kwik-Cricket Competition - Victoria Park 2nd Place - ParaGames (Bronze Medallists) 2nd Place - Year 3/4 Tower Hamlets Mixed Outdoor Kwik-Cricket Competition - Victoria Park It was very hard to think of just one person to receive the Sports Award for 2018. After a lot of thought I decided to choose two children for different reasons. Shahriar S- Year 6 - received the award for being an excellent role model to all of his peers and younger children. He is not only talented at most sports but one of the most kindest and positive children I’ve ever had the pleasure of teaching. His ideas for the pitch are fresh and exciting, he always uses his initiative and he empowers others to be the best they can be. He is a born leader and in his role of sports leader he’s flourished even more. I know he will go on to great things! Amirah S -Year 6 - received the Sport Award for 2018 for how she has used sport at VPS as a way to positively improve her confidence . With her new found confidence she has gone on to excel in every sport in a fair and collaborative way. She shows passion and encourages others to be the best they can be which is so rewarding to see. She has an incredible talent for cricket and has captained two teams to win both Borough competitions this year due to her focus and drive to succeed. She chose the Year 3/4 cricket teams from observation and they went on to the finals and placed 2nd. She thoroughly deserves this award and I am very proud of her. I am looking forward to see what 2018-2019 will bring! Well done VPS!
