Music and Singing
We use the Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Service (THAMES) to provide music support in our school.
Mercedes Maresca delivers music lessons to all year groups as well as leading our school choir.
Her focus is on:
Through THAMES, we also have a morning of whole class violin and cello lessons for year 2 and year 3.
They have had these lessons for two years.
Children can then join a continuers group or may be identified to receive 1:1 tuition as part of the THAMES music award.
They are taught by Gavin Rhind and Lara Vernay.
THAMES also provide opportunities for classes to take part in a range of music projects through the year.
For example, year 5 take part in ‘Tower Voices’ each year. This is a borough wide project involving year 5 children from a range of schools culminating in a performance for parents and schools.

- Teaching the children a range of songs from different cultures and from different genres
- Providing opportunities for children to listen to and respond to different music genres and to learn about different musicians
- Teaching the children to follow a rhythm and to use a range of percussion instruments
- Teaching children to compose short pieces of music on different instruments
