2017-2018 Every year I write on this page to express how proud I am of the children for going above and beyond. This year has been no different. 2017-2018 has been filled with many achievements, lots of new exciting learning and memorable sport trips. One of my favourite memories from this year was taking Year 6 to Wembley to watch the SSE Women's FA Cup Final. Our children are so passionate for Sport at VPS and I have seen such an improvement in how the children interact with each other during sessions in PE, Pitch and the playground. We received great curriculum support lessons from THYSF and the staff have really made an effort to deliver high quality PE lessons. Year 1 have especially been a joy to watch during their PE lessons...I can see some rising stars brewing! I would also like to congratulate all the classes who have stepped out of their comfort zones and achieved their target of swimming over 25m! We had some children who swam 500m and above. We have taken part in many competitions throughout the year and have also participated in a few friendlies hosted by Bigland Green. The children love the chance to challenge other schools and it is a great way to motivate the children and focus them on reaching a good result. Pitch time is used to train for competitions and I am always so impressed with how much effort the children put in! The Sports Leaders have been a HUGE part of how well our students have performed this year due to their dedication and leadership skills. I am very grateful to have had such an incredible team helping me out. You are all stars and I know you will be a credit to any team/project you become a part of at secondary school. Our main achievements this year as as follows: 1st Place - Tower Hamlets Girls Indoor Kwik-Cricket Competition took place at UEL Sports Dock. 2nd Place - Handball THYSF - Langdon Park (Silver Medallists) 1st Place - Tower Hamlets Girls Outdoor Kwik-Cricket Competition - Victoria Park 2nd Place - ParaGames (Bronze Medallists) 2nd Place - Year 3/4 Tower Hamlets Mixed Outdoor Kwik-Cricket Competition - Victoria Park It was very hard to think of just one person to receive the Sports Award for 2018. After a lot of thought I decided to choose two children for different reasons. Shahriar S- Year 6 - received the award for being an excellent role model to all of his peers and younger children. He is not only talented at most sports but one of the most kindest and positive children I’ve ever had the pleasure of teaching. His ideas for the pitch are fresh and exciting, he always uses his initiative and he empowers others to be the best they can be. He is a born leader and in his role of sports leader he’s flourished even more. I know he will go on to great things! Amirah S -Year 6 - received the Sport Award for 2018 for how she has used sport at VPS as a way to positively improve her confidence . With her new found confidence she has gone on to excel in every sport in a fair and collaborative way. She shows passion and encourages others to be the best they can be which is so rewarding to see. She has an incredible talent for cricket and has captained two teams to win both Borough competitions this year due to her focus and drive to succeed. She chose the Year 3/4 cricket teams from observation and they went on to the finals and placed 2nd. She thoroughly deserves this award and I am very proud of her. I am looking forward to see what 2018-2019 will bring! Well done VPS! (Photos to be added) Emily - Emotional and Physical Wellbeing Leader |
