'Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try'On Friday 18th March, the long awaited Borough Football Finals had finally arrived! For the last few months, since winning the Cluster Football Competition the team had stepped up and took on the training with an excellent mindset. The girls would train at least twice a week and play out in their community to get extra practise! Even at some lunchtimes they would give up their time to train. For many of these girls football did not come easy. I can honestly say that each and every one of them have progressed. Some have made progress in the sport where some have made progress within themselves as a person. The amount of confidence that you have and the way that you work as a team is very admirable. Friday was a complete reflection of how the girls have blossomed as a team. After arriving and warming up it was time to face the music! We battled in the first group stages as we took on the talented Guardian Angels, St.Mary and St.Micheals and Marion Richardson. Fatima ( our talented goalie even with an injury) did not let one single goal in as our fabulous defender Tahmina made sure she was playing her posisition incredibly well! We ended up reaching the quarter finals as we were one of the two top teams in the group stages! Also well done to our striker Zahra for her excellent goal againt Marion Richardson! It was then time for the quarter finals. We were facing the excellent St. Saviors! The match was an excellent but tense one as the score remainded 0-0. Tulsi, Farzana and Sajidah battled fiercely during this game and I could see the passion in the way you played!! After no goals were scored it was time for penalties! Penalties can be extremely daunting - and with Fatima being injured and not able to dive, the flexible Soumia stepped up to the challenge! With no goals scored by our 3 penalthy takers... it was time to take one final penalty.. If we scored we would go through to the semi finals!... GOALLLLLLL the wonderful Inaya scored taking us through! Well done Inaya your team are so proud of you! We had made it to the semi finals! Semi finals... We faced Chisenhale who were an extremely good team! The girls played an excellent game but Chisenhale come out top with a score of 1-0! But Virginia played very well! It was now time to play for 3rd or 4th Place - by this time the girls were completely exhausted but they still went on to play amazingly well! We ended in 4th place which is such an achievement! You all worked so hard and never gave up - you pushed yourselves to the limit! Well done! I am so proud of you! Emily Today Kate and I took the Year 5 Girls Football team to compete in the Borough Finals! Although the weather was dismal, the girls excitement shone through as we made our way to the Mile End Pitches. For a lot of these girls it is their first time competing at this level, so we knew it would be tough. We were in Group C and played against Marner, St.Saviours and Guardian Angels.
We played some great games but the talented St. Saviours won our group round and went ot the semi-finals. Well done to all of the girls who played today. Special mention to Joanna (our goalie) who played fantastically and saved some very good shots. On the 3rd March Year 5/6 Mixed Basketball Team took part in the THYSF Basketball competition at Bow School. Competing against other schools from across the borough, the day was tough but rewarding! In teams of 3 Virginia spread out across the courts and kept up an excellent performance. Half of the team were supported by me and half were with Kate. We both were so incredibly proud as (with very little practice) you showed great skill and sportsmanship! Reading your reflection journals I can tell you all had a very enjoyable day. (Please read Yusra's amazing reflection of the day below) Well done to Team B who were the runners up in there group and managed to reach the quarter finals. You worked so well together as a team and I am excited for next year already! |
