Today, the Tower Hamlets Indoor Kwik-Cricket Competition took place at UEL Sports Dock with VPS Girls Cricket Team feeling hopeful to get a place in the final. VPS started the group stages against St. Mary and St.Micheals with a first great win. The team went on to play Culloden and Manorfeild winning every match which meant they qualified for the Semi-finals! A particular highlight from the Group stage was winning a whopping 91 runs to the oppositions 19! For the semi-final we played the excellent Marner team and it was a very close game! However VPS made it through to the finals due to great batting from Shaheda at the end and superb bowling from Amirah during the game. For the final we had to face the very skilled St.Mary and St Michael’s. I (Emily) selected a strong squad ready for the challenge, and with spirits high in confidence, Team VPS were determined to win! And they DID! The last game was an exciting one but with great batting skill, we won! The team have made the school very proud of this great achievement and hope it continues for the foreseeable future! Special mentions to - Adila – 14 outs overall with a mixture of catching and bowling . Jannah and Labibah for their excellent skilful batting as a pair and Amirah for her outstanding bowling. Thank you to the lovely parent volunteer Shafia who encouraged the girls and kept the coach (me) calm! STARS!! Emily A good effort from the VPS KS2 Boys Cricket Team at the Indoor Kwik-Cricket competition today at the Sports Dock (UEL)! They played 3 matches overall with two losses and a win. The boys were able to identify their strengths and weaknesses from the matches and look forward to the competitions in the summer term! Thanks again to Jahid for organizing the matches in such an exciting location! We now have brand new Sports Leaders! Sport Leaders are children from Year 5 and 6 who apply by writing a speech of application stating why they think they would be an excellent Sports Leader, what skills they can bring to the position and most importantly, why they want to have that role! Sports Leaders assist in class PE lessons, the pitch, the playground by setting out equipment and acting as demonstrators to the rest of the class. They also assist in organizing extra curricular events, sports day, and have lots of other responsibilities! They have already made a great start, with staff commenting on how helpful they have been in the playground. |
