17th March was a very special day for the Year 6 Girls Football Team. This team had worked really well together in school, and constantly praised and supported one another, resulting in the day being one they will always remember. We started the competition in a strong group of 4 schools and battled our way to the quarter finals, recieving the best runners up of all the groups. We then went on the quarter final match against St.Marys and St. Micheals who are very talented. It was a tough game and both teams gave a fantastic performance, but no goals had been scored so it was all down to penalties! Again, it remained neck to neck but VPS won on the final goal scored by Shaheda. This goal put us forward to the semi finals. We were so proud to get this far, especially as there were approximately 14 teams competing who were also the best of their borough! Unfortunately we lost in the semi finals against Blue Gate Feilds. As a sports leader, I am utterly impressed with how much these girls worked as a team and bonded over their love of the game. Well done girls, you make me smile each and every day! Emily On Thursday 3rd March Rohema and I took 12 very talented children to compete in the Basketball competition at Bow School. This years competition was better than ever with a fantastic turnout of over 250 children! We had 3 teams of 4 representing Virginia in each group. Group 1 and 2 won the group stages and Group 2 went on to play in the semi finals against the overall winners Manorfeild. I am really impressed that with little practice, our children stepped up the challenge and came 4th, Well done to you all. ''I HAVE CONFIDENCE AND CONFIDENCE IN ME'' - Our Team ChantOn Friday 24th Year 5 girls took part in a Football Cluster Competition at Lawdale. Although we were due to play earlier on in the term, (we had to postpone to a later date because of bad weather on original date) we used the extra time we had to practice and become even stronger as a team. Hosted by Marc at Lawdale the teams we were playing against were Lawdale A and B Team and St. Mattias A and B team. There were 6 teams altogether as Virginia also had two teams. After some excellent play from all teams Virginia A came out top of there games alongside St,Matthias from Group 2. It was a very tense final which went down to penalties. Labibah was an excellent goalie and out of 5/6 games only one goal was conceded. In the final she managed to save the last penalty meaning that we will be attending the Borough Finals in March. I am not only impressed with the result but I am very happy with how the girls have developed socially and the impact this has had on their relationship with each-other. They play so well as a team and frequently support and encourage each-other to be the best they can be. A special mention to Bushra and Nura who have completely stepped out of their comfort zones. Due to this surge in confidence both girls performed so well at the cluster competition with Bushra scoring a goal and Nura taking a fabulous penalty. Well done girls I am so proud of you all. I look forward to the borough finals. |
