Year 3 Class Blog 2020-2021

October 23rd, 2020

23/10/2020

Happy half term!

Today is the last day of term. I hope you have a well deserved rest - you have all worked so hard this term and have made me so proud!! We have been doing a weekly run on Friday mornings and the children have been enjoying it and  developing their stamina with running- today we did 9 laps of the pitch. Great job year 3 !!

Half term homework-Design a Stone Age tool

Picture
The children have loved learning about the Stone Age - you have remembered all of the facts so well. Your task for the holiday is to design your own Stone Age tool . You can draw and label your tool in your book. Here are some questions to think about :

What job does your tool do?

What is your tool made of?

Draw and label your tool in your homework book. Once you have done this you could have a go at making your tool (you can make it out of anything that you have at home).

Reading

Please read 15 minutes- you have your library book and your home reader. I would like you to put any new vocabulary that you come across in the back of your homework book and you also have the questions in the front of your reading record. Growing our vocabulary is so important!!

This year I am challenging all year 3 children to read the 10 must read books by the end of the year !

Here is the fantastic list of books:

  1. Into the Forest -  Anthony Browne
  2. Leon and the Place Between - Angela McAllister
  3. Jinks & O’Hare Funfair Repair - Philip Reeve
  4. The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by A. Wolf - Jon Scieszka
  5. The Wolves in the Walls - Neil Gaiman
  6. The Sheep Pig – Dick King Smith
  7. Cat Tales (Ice Cat) – Linda Newbery
  8. The Abominables -  Eva Ibbotson
  9. Pippi Longstocking – Astrid Lindgren
  10. The Worst Witch – Jill Murphy

I will be giving children the books to read and keeping a record of who has had what books. Please let me know if you have any of these books at home already- this means your child doesn't need to borrow the schools copy- thank you!! (I forgot to give these books out on the last day of term- I will give them out on the Monday when we get back to school)

Grammar- Homophones

Well being homework

Tell me something you are proud of this term ( you all have lots of things to be proud of!!)

Use the sentence starter

I am proud of myself because .....

For example- I am proud of myself because ........
I am kind to others.
I try hard in my learning.
I don't give up.
I use my voice to speak up about things.

Spellings

Look, say, cover, write, check is a method of learning spelling, where children:
  1. Study a word.
  2. Say it aloud a few times.
  3. Cover it up with a piece of paper or their hand.
  4. Write the spelling next to the original word.
  5. Check their version to see if they got it right

  1. her
  2. what
  3. there
  4. out
  5. this

What a fantastic week Year 3!!

Thank you for such a great week of learning - I have been so proud of the way that you have taken on your Stone Age learning. You know so much and have confidently used the information to write sentences. You have settled in to year 3. Next week is our last week before half term- that's gone quick hasn't it?

A huge welcome to our two new students Najla and Aaya!  You have settled in so well to Year 3 and we are so excited to go on a learning journey with you. Well done to year 3 for making them so welcome :)

Poetry Slam

Next week we will be filming our video for the poetry slam. This weeks homework is to carry on learning the poem off by heart (this means being able to say the poem without looking at the words) . Practice it with your adults or siblings who can give you prompts if you get a bit stuck. Good luck!

Hello Year 3!

Write me a letter making sure you think about capital letters to start your sentences and full stops to end your sentences.

Paragraph 1- Tell me about your first few weeks back in the classroom. How does it feel to be back in the classroom doing learning?
Is there anything you would like to tell me about  how you learn best? What is going well and what are you struggling with?

Paragraph 2 Tell me how playtime is going? Are you enjoying your playtime? Are you enjoying any particular games? Are you enjoying playing with the equipment?

I look forward to reading your letters :)

Learn its

Some facts in maths we just need to learn off by heart. This means that we know the answer without having to think about. Continue to practice these facts at home.

Please sign your child's reading record every week and read with them. We have stapled this set of questions into the front of their reading record- it will allow you to dig deeper into the book (this is why they have a book for a whole week so).
