Reception Class Blog 2020-2021

Well done for a fantastic Spring Term Reception!

Today is the Independence Day of Bangladesh. We learnt about how the people of Bangladesh celebrate on this day in lots of different ways.

As a school, we decided to think about interesting and inspirational people from Bangladesh.

Abdus Shakhoor
is a Bengali painter. He uses bright colours in his work and likes to tell stories through his art. Abdus also includes a variety of animals in his paintings.

Today in school we looked closely at some of his work, and used his technique of making dots on the paper to create a background.

Your learning for this Friday afternoon is to finish your Abdus Shakhoor inspired artwork! Look carefully at the examples of his paintings below and then draw your chosen animal or character onto your background. You may even want to practise drawing your animal first before - some of us did this today, too!
Picture
Lucy used felt tips to add the characters to hers. Can you see which animals and plants she drew?

Remember to upload your wonderful learning to Tapestry!

I hope everyone has a restful break, and look forward to seeing you in the Summer Term.

What a fantastic week Reception. It has been so wonderful to have everyone back learning, exploring and playing together.
We have been very busy...

Home learning for Friday afternoon
Maths
We have been thinking about patterns this week. Watch Miss Cooper talking through action patterns.

Building 9 & 10 - Wk 3 - Session 5 - Pattern from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

Can you follow the action patterns below?
Picture
Create your own action pattern. You could record it and send it in to Tapestry.
As a challenge you could draw it out and bring it in to school on Monday. Then maybe someone else could try yours!
Sight words
We are going to have a big focus on learning our sight words in the weeks up to Easter.

Please check your child's Reading Record to see which sight words they need to practise each day.

Over the weekend, create a game with these sight words to make sure you know them!

Reading
Your child will have a story book to share with you, and a coloured reading book to read to you.
Please enjoy reading these books together, and let me know how it went by commenting in the record.

Building 9 & 10 - Wk 2 - Session 5 - Making 10 from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

Ask a helper to hide 10 objects...

Make a giant ten frame on the floor. You could use sticks, masking tape or even chalk on the floor.

Go on a hunt to find the objects.

As you find the objects, put them in your 10 frame.

How many have you found so far? How many more do you need to find?

Turn over one card. What number is shown on the 10 frame? How many more counters would you need to make 10?
Go and find that numeral as quickly as you can!

Roll your dice (or click here to find a dice online).

What number have you landed on? I rolled a 5. This will go in the middle.

Now sort your dominoes into dominoes that show 4, dominoes that have fewer than 4 spots, and dominoes that have more than 4 spots.
Picture
You can either print the dominoes below, or ask someone to help you copy them out - like I did!

A day in the life of Zoe the Vet
Here is the non-fiction book we have read together over the last two days.
Have a think about these questions with your grown up.

1) What is Zoe's dog called?
2) What does she do before work?
3) What's the first thing Zoe does when she gets to work?
4) What does Zoe use to examine the dog with the bad heart?
5) Why does the rabbit have to have it's nail clipped?

Can you think about some of the similarities and differences between a nurse or doctor and a vet?

Building 9 & 10 - Wk 2 - Session 2 - Comparing Numbers Within 10 from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

Grab a handful of objects. Estimate how many you might have...
Check how many you have.
How many does your partner have?

If your friend has more than you...how many could they have?
If your friend has fewer than you...how many could they have?

We're celebrating World Book Day this week. As a school, our challenge is to write stories with the theme 'All About Me'.

Watch the video below to remind yourself how we make our little story books at school! You made need someone at home to help you.

Use it to write a story about yourself, or retell your favourite story - or even just fill it with your favourite things.

Remember to create a front cover, with a title and the author (that's you!) Inside you'll need some illustrations to really make your story come to life :)
Vets!

This week we're thinking about vets and how they help animals.
