Nursery Class Blog 2020-2021

Good Morning Nursery. I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready for a week of some really fun activities.

Mark Making/Art

We are going to be role playing Doctors and Nurses today. You can play with a grown up/your brother/sister, you can even play with your cuddly toys! Remember to do lots of talking.

During our role play today you can mark make some prescriptions to give to your patients! They can use these to get some medicine and make them feel better.

Have a look at Rakhi role playing with her teddies. I wrote my prescription for a very sick duck with some chicken pox. Who will you write your prescriptions for?

Parents, role play (throughout the EYFS) is the most important part of children’s early development. When children are given the time, opportunity and space to role play, they learn many skills. Role play allows children to develop their confidence, creativity, communication and language skills, physical development and problem solving skills. They are able to act out different roles, different occupations, what they see out in the community and at home. When an adult facilitates their play and plays alongside them, allowing the child to take the lead, this is where the magic happens. Our children’s language develops, their independence, their imagination, their early story telling skills, early writing, and knowledge of number.  They use this play to make sense of the world around them. Their play is meaningful.
If you can sit  every day for at least 10 minutes and role play with your child, ensuring that this play is language rich, you will be giving your child the foundation they need to develop a love of learning and master all of the skills mentioned above.

Your child may make marks like this. This is what we want! This is called their early writing. It doesn’t look like yours or their older brother’s and sister’s writing. Please praise your child’s writing when they show you this. Don’t call it scribbling, call it writing and ask them what their marks mean :). They’ll love telling you.

We can get creative today and make an Ambulance van. When there is an accident or an emergency we can call 999 and ask for the Ambulance. Some really important people called Paramedics come in their Ambulance van and help to look after us. They take us to the hospital if we need to go there.

You can use boxes, cardboard, bottles etc, any ‘junk’ from around your house to create your Ambulance. You can draw a picture of one, do a collage of one using yellow and green. You choose!

Number/Shape

We are going to make some colourful finger puppets today. We can use these puppets to explore the different colours and count our numbers 1 to 10. Have a look at how Rakhi makes them.

Phonics

Can you go for a listening walk today or any time this week? Listen for all the sounds that you can hear around you.

Fine Motor

Watch Aysha thread some pasta onto her string. You can have a go too :)
