Growing

Nursery have started learning about their 'growing' topic. We've had a really busy week reading the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and re-telling the story, using lots of props, to our friends. 

Can you have a go at re-telling the story to your family at home? You can use props from around your home to help you. Remember the language from the story, "FEE FI FO FUM." What did Jack steal from the giant first?

​We've been talking about what we would see at the top if we had our own beanstalk. Can you mark make a picture of this at home? I would see a chocolate factory at the top!

We've been growing our own beans and learning all about how to look after the bean to help it grow. 

Can you have a go at growing your own beanstalk at home? We used soil at school, maybe you can use some damp cotton wool at home. What does it need to grow? 

1. Fill a cup or a jar with some damp cotton wool
2. Place a lima/butter bean inside the cotton wool
3. Place the cup/jar near the window
4. Make sure the cotton wool doesn't get dry. Keep it damp. But don't make it too wet or your beanstalk won't grow. 

We tasted some beans in class and told each other in full sentences what our favourite ones were and why. We even did some wonderful mark making to show this. 

For your mark making at home can you write about your lima bean plant? What can you see? How are you looking after it? Draw pictures and don't forget to write your name.

Well done Nursery for looking after our bean plants! They need some sun light and water!

Fine Motor Fun

Nursery are always involved in lots of different fine motor activities throughout the day to ensure they are continuously developing their early writing and physical development skills in fun and engaging ways.

Construction indoors can enable children to develop their fine motor, problem solving and communication and language skills. Offering them lego, mobilo (as seen in the picture), duplo, wooden blocks or even small materials from around the home such as straws, lids, containers, hole punch, card can encourage them to construct and really build and strengthen the muscles in their arms and hands.  Model and encourage them to mark make their ideas, labels and designs of what they have built. Encourage them to enjoy writing for purpose at home.

Bangladesh Independence Day

The whole school has got involved this morning in various art activities to celebrate Bangladesh’s Independence Day. 

Nursery created some lovely art work this morning inspired by the artist Abdus Shakoor. 

Nursery explored bright colours, mixing paint to see what colours they could make! We practised our fine motor skills at the same time, using q tips and dipping some star bursts into the paint to make some beautiful and colourful parrots. We even stuck some feathers on.

We've been continuing our topic on Spring this week and have been learning all about woodland animals. 

We have been writing our own books about woodland animals and using lots of descriptive language and full sentences to talk about what we've observed. 

This afternoon and over the weekend can you find out some facts about different woodland animals? Draw some pictures of your favourite woodland animals. Rakhi has three favourite woodland animals, the deer, the rabbit and the badger!  

Keep practising your counting and sorting skills this afternoon. Can you play some counting games?

​Welcome back Nursery! It has been so lovely to see all of you in Nursery this week after such a long time! We’ve missed you all and are so happy to be back. 

We had so much fun celebrating World Book Day today and learning about all of our favourite stories and characters. Your costumes were fantastic!

Spring Walk

Rakhi saw some ducks and geese in a pond on her walk. 

Talk about what you can see happening in Rakhi’s videos. What are the ducks, geese and other birds doing? What do you think these birds like to eat? Do you think the ducks and geese were happy with the seagulls?

Can you mark make a picture of the different birds you can see in the water? I can see some ducks. I can see some geese. I can see some seagulls. What can you see?

World Book Day
​

To celebrate world book day can you read some of your favourite stories with your grown up? Talk about your favourite stories and why you like them. Reading is so much fun!

Rakhi loves reading and two of her favourite stories are ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs.’

Look at Rakhi’s story spoons that she made. She painted the main characters onto them and retold the story out loud. Can you make some to retell your favourite stories?

Remember that we are dressing up next week Friday (12th) to celebrate world book day! You can dress up as a character from your favourite story!

Counting Fruit

Can you make a rainbow fruit skewer today? Help your grown up to cut some different pieces of fruit. How many pieces can you put onto your skewer altogether? 

Name your different fruits and describe what they taste like! Are they sweet, bitter, tangy?

Let’s do some body percussion! Join in with the clapping, singing and dancing!

Spring Walk

Rakhi has been going on lots of local spring walks near where she lives. Rakhi went for a walk in a nature reserve near her house and saw some Deers, some boy Deers called Stags and baby deers which are called Fawns/Calfs. 

Talk about the Deers that you can see and what you notice. What do they look like? What are they doing? What do you notice about the boy Deers what do they have on their head?

Can you mark make a picture of the Deers and what they were eating?

Can you think about the colours of Spring? Explore these colours with paint/pens/different materials to make a lovely collage. 

Shapes

Today on zoom we read the book called ‘What Shape?’ 

Can you find and name some different shaped objects around your home? Let’s go on a shape hunt!

Spring Walk

Yesterday we were trying to spot some blossoms/blossom buds around us. Today I’d like us to see if we can find any daffodils or daffodil buds growing. Describe what you can see!

Daffodils

​Can you mark make a picture of some daffodils? You can use pens, pencils, paint, make a collage etc. 

What can I count today?

​On your walk, can you count 10 natural objects? What did you find? Were there any leaves, any stones, sticks or flowers? 

Can you make a picture using what you found? I wonder what colours you can see...

Robot Rhythm

Spring Walks

This week we are going to try and get out and about and do lots of walking. We’re going to go on lots of spring walks. For our walk today I want you to see if you can find any blossom trees or blossom buds growing? This is what Rakhi saw.

I saw some pink blossoms and some small white blossom buds growing on the tree. 

Can you mark make a picture or make a collage of what you found?

Count how many blossoms you’re putting onto your tree! Can you find the matching number?

Cloud Spotting
​

Did you manage to see any clouds yesterday using your cloud finder? Let’s try again today. This time have a look at what your cloud looks like and what it reminds you of! Sometimes clouds remind you of things, they all have different shapes! 

Rakhi went for a walk and saw lots of clouds. The cloud at the top reminds her of a fish and the cloud on the left near the big tree reminds her of a crocodile and its jaws! What can you see in the clouds?

​Can you make some clouds using different materials?

​Count how many cotton balls you’re using to make each cloud. Count how many white paint splats you use to make your clouds. We can count anything! Keep counting and having fun :).
