COMPOSER OF THE WEEK

Wolfang Amadeus Mozart

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart sat down at the keyboard at the age of three. He composed his first piece of music at the age of five.  He was a genius.

He played the  keyboard and the violin.

He wrote an astonishing  amount of  beautiful music.

Listen to Mozart's Twelve Variations on  "Ah  vous dirai-je Maman" ( "Ah mother if I could tell you")

Mozart composed this music when he was 25 years old. This piece consist of twelve variations on the french folk song  "Ah! vous dirai-ie, maman". The french melody has been used for many children's songs, such as " Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Start"and " Baa, Baa, Black Sheep ".

Mozart's starting point was a short well known melody and from that melody he let his imagination flow and created twelve variations!

What is Theme and Variation?

Theme and variation is a specific kind of form in music.

The form  of a piece of music tells you how the music is organised.

Theme:  is the main melody ( in Mozart's piece of music will be the melody that sounds like "Twinkle twinkle little star")

Variation:  is music that is similar to the theme but is also different enough that it doesn't repeat the melody exactly.

Play close attention to changes in the  music?

Why do you think each variation   feels different?

Listen carefully to Variation 8 (VIII)

Mozart  has changed Key!

Variation 8 is in C minor, which means that he is using notes from a minor scale.

How does the minor key makes you feel?

Listen carefully to Variation 9 (IV)

In Variation 9 he comes back to the original Key:
C major which means he is using notes from a major scale.

How does the major key makes you feel?

CREATIVE PROJECT OF THE WEEK
Y5/Y6

Mozart composed  his Twelve Variations based on a folk song "Ah  vous dirai-je Maman" ( "Ah mother if I could tell you").

You could also write four variations to the short melody you composed last week!

Have you managed to write it?

If not, It is never too late to catch up with the music blog!

Have a go at  writing a short melody using
a musical notation software!
It is an online resource, ask your parents
to sign in for you.
https://www.noteflight.com/home

Once on the home page, click on create and
select:  start from a blank score sheet.

Can you figure out how to  write a short melody and how to play it back?

And how to change the rhythm, by using the duration
section.

           Remember...

           Practice makes perfect.

           Revise
   last  two week's  songs!

"There is power in the music"

            "One moment, one people"

Picture
Listen and follow the score :

Mozart's Twelve Variations
               "Ah  vous dirai-je  Maman"

Play attention when you see this:

It is called a repeat sign.  In music,
is used to tell us that the melody we just
            played  or sang
 should be ...repeated!

Follow the score.

            Remember

Each note is a single sound and represents a
            musical note.

            Listen to the music again,

When do you think the variations start?

Can you tap the beat of each variation?

Which one is your favourite variation?

             Why?

CREATIVE PROJECT OF THE WEEK

Did you write your song about the Butterfly?
Did your song tell a story?
Did  you perform it at home?
How did it go?
This week I like you to record your butterfly song.
You could ask your parents to help you to  record
it on a phone, if possible.

Listen to it few times and think...
Is there anything that you like to improve/change?
If yes, then record it  again till  you are happy with it.

Did you know ?

Thats what musicians do!
Musicians rehearse and record music in studios, listen to it, and think...
if they want to improve something they simply record it again!

I hope you enjoyed this week's music blog!
