Homework - 23rd October 2020

23/10/2020

This week the children have been learning how to use Google Classroom. It is a tool that will be increasingly useful at school and we will be starting to use it more for homework. The children have already got some experience of using it at school. Their homework this week is to try and become more familiar with it and to see if they have any issues with it that we can sort out after the half term holiday.

How to access Google Classroom

To access Google Classroom, you need to type in classroom.google.com.
Picture
In the top right hand corner, they should click on sign in and choose google classroom.
Picture
This should take them to the signing in page. The children all have their school email address and password that they should then use to log in.
Picture
Once they have logged in, the children should choose the RME classroom.

When they have entered the classroom, all the tasks and assignments are visible to the children.

There are two for half term, one is "Why the Romans left Britain" and the other is "Solids, Liquids and Gases".  The children should try both of these over the course of the half term.

Homework - 16th October

16/10/2020

We have had another great week this week. We have done lots of investigations with newspaper and ice cubes. Why not ask us what we have learnt about how the Romans were able to stop ice from melting.

On Purple Mash this week there are some activities for spellings and maths. Please make sure these are done by Monday.

Below is a science activity that should also be done by Monday.
I hope you have a lovely, restful weekend.

Homework - 9th October

9/10/2020

We've had another brilliant week at school. The children have been learning lots about solids, liquids and gases. Ask them to explain the differences to you at home.

Just a friendly reminder that homework should be completed by the time children come back to school on Monday morning.

Spellings

We have been continuing to learn the rules about plurals. The children have had some new rules to embed this week and should be trying to think about these words and rules when they are doing their writing.

This week's spelling task is to complete the quiz below.

Maths

This half term we have been recapping the times tables the children learnt in Year 3. There are two 2Dos on Purple Mash to help build the confidence and fluency.

Science

Have a look around your house (with an adult) and see if you can find 2 examples each of different solids, liquids and gases.
Watch this video again if you need a reminder. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zkgg87h
Write them in the comment on the Purple Mash blog.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Homework - 2nd October 2020

2/10/2020

This week...

...the children have been working hard on their geography skills. They have been looking at lots of different types of maps to learn more about the Romans, their empire and what life was like in Londinium. They have also been working really hard collecting facts about Roman London and using these facts to write an information text all about Londinium. We are looking forward to showing them to you soon!

Spellings

This week, we have been looking at how we spell plural nouns. So far, we have learnt three spelling rules.

  1. Adding an “s” to make a word plural, for example, dragon - dragons, apple - apples.
  2. Words that end in y but have a vowel (a,e,i,o,u) before the y add an “s” to the end too, for example, day - days, boy - boys, donkey - donkeys.
  3. Words that end in a y but don’t have a vowel before the y. For these words we take away the “y” and it is replaced with “ies”, for example, city - cities, lady - ladies.
These two videos will be useful to recap the learning and revise the spelling rules at home.
  1. classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-investigate-suffixes-plurals-6nj64c
  2. classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-practise-and-apply-knowledge-of-suffixes-plural-including-a-test-6gt3jc
This week’s task is to create a poster explaining these three rules, upload a photo of your poster to Purple Mash and keep the original at home to practise your spellings.

Maths

This week we have been finishing our work on place value.

There are activities set on Purple Mash that the children should complete.

5 Minute Workout

To help us build up our general fitness and to provide an activity break for the children, we have been building in 5 minute exercise slots to our school day.
Your homework is to create a 5 minute workout made up of 5 different activities. Remember, these are activities that are done in the classroom with limited space.
You can include a range of the different exercises we have been doing at school.  For inspiration, you could look at one of the PE with Joe videos on YouTube.
Write your workout on the class blog on Purple Mash.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
