Each year, the Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation hosts a celebration of the sporting performances of Tower Hamlets' young people. This year the atmosphere was once again buzzing at Regents Lake Banqueting Hall! Before the awards began we were treated to some incredible dance performances! This year myself and Kate was joined by pupil Fred Cox who I had nominated for an award (please read why below). Myself, Fred and his parents had an excellent evening as we were able to celebrate the pure sporting talent of the worthy winners! This event is such an uplifting experience as the talent and achievements of these young sports stars really do amaze you. We also got the chance to see and hear from two sporting legends, Alec Stewart (former England cricketer) and Trevor Sinclair (former professional footballer and assistant manager of Lancaster City). Even though the very talented Fred did not win the evening was highly motivational. I hope to see a Virginia student either past or present on that stage one day as you all have the potential to reach your sporting goals and truly succeed. Freds nomination.Fred not only enjoys many sports but in particular has a passion for cricket. Fred is a natural born leader. When I lead sessions in school, Fred is always one to (on his own accord) help other people to succeed and offer to help set up or captain his side. Fred is very inclusive to all, especially when coaching cricket to his peers, and always treats everyone with respect. Fred captains the school cricket team where he is looked upon as a role model by the other children. During 2015, Fred led his team to 2nd place in the Mixed Cricket competition at Victoria Park. He captains many of the games in school and in competitions and understands his peers strengths and influences his love of the game upon others. In school, Fred is exceeding in all areas of cricket and is playing at a higher level. As we are a rights respecting school, Fred reflects all of our values permanently in sport both at school and outside of school. Apart from constant success in school, Fred has also since been attending district training religiously for around 3 years. He attends district training once a week and is part of the Blackheath club. He also has started to play for Jahid Ahmed’s Tower Hamlets team. I just really want to stress how amazing Fred is! It is rare to find someone with such passion to coach others, and do so with such a calm, inclusive and respectful and passionate way. He recently was elected Sports Leader from a huge number of applicants and will be an asset to area of work and for the rest of the children. He really is just an amazing boy with so much to give. He really deserves this award!
