Yesterday, Year 6 had the opportunity to watch world class tennis and experience first hand the excellent venue and skills being displayed. They were so inspired from this experience and learnt lots about the game! Naimah commented ''This was the best day EVER!''. I look forward to watching Year 6 put their new inspired learning into action! Emily 2016-2017 was possibly the most memorable year in terms of sporting achievements. We took part in over 15 competitions and represented Tower Hamlets for the Cricket competition at the London Youth Games placing 3rd out of all the best teams in LONDON! I would also like to congratulate all the classes who have stepped out of their comfort zones and achieved their target of swimming over 25m! We had some children who could swimming 500m and above! Amazing! Please see the powerpoint on the main Sports page highlighting all of our successes this year.
I would also like to say a BIG thank you to the sports leaders who were a great help in supporting in all areas of our sports ethos. Huzaifa, Eusha, Wahid, Soumia, Amira, Sofia, Labibah, Tamim, Ayman - You were the best! They all participated in their role with enthusiasm and made a huge difference to the confidence and ability of our students ! They led amazing sessions for the younger children and organised our annual Sports Day. I hope you take your leadership skills with you to secondary school and make a difference to the lives of others in Sport. PE has also been better than ever at VPS - Year 2/3 had 10 weeks worth of Gymnastics teaching from THYSF, Year 4/5 have enjoyed Tennis with Lee, I (Emily) taught an exciting unit of Dance to Year 5/6 and Jahid and other many other coaches gave us excellent support in our focus sport of CRICKET. Lastly I would like to congratulate Soumia from Yr 6 who won the Sports Award for this year. Soumia has truly left a legacy behind at VPS. Since the age of 6 , when I first saw her talent, I knew she was going to be someone special. Across the years she has displayed so much passion, determination and technical talent in every PE lesson, competition or activity to do with sport. She participated in many competitions, including captaining the girl’s school football team for the last few years. She was an amazing asset to the Sports Leaders, working alongside myself and her peers to run her own sessions. . She would always captain her team with love and encouraged their fighting spirit. Soumia also had the capability of getting her classmates or others to bond with each other in a respectful way through sport. The younger children saw her as a strong female role model and developed a better mindset towards sport because of her. She will be an absolute asset to any team she joins and I hope she goes on to be very successful in her future in Sport. We will really miss you. Lets see what 2017-2018 is going to bring! Emily Year 4 Value Games On Wednesday 12th July, Year 4 went to Victoria Park to take part in the Value Games. The children had a fantastic day taking part in lots of exciting sport activities such as Judo, Zumba dancing and boxing. It was a great day enjoyed by all. Year 5/6 Kwik-Cricket Festival at Weavers Field. On Friday, Year 5 and 6 enjoyed an afternoon of competitive cricket at the local park as part of our Cricket Focus Sport end of year celebrations. They were split into mixed teams and played 2 games each. The level of skill was fantastic and Green Team were the overall winners of the afternoon! Thank you to Vaughan for being the second umpire. A great afternoon enjoyed by all. Green Team Winners!1st place triumph for Team AA big well done to the Year 5/6 Handball team who took part in the Tower Hamlets Handball Competition today. Team B played well but were unfortunately knocked out in the group stages with two draws and two losses. Team A made it all the way through the knock out stages and onto the semi finals resulting in a final game with the excellent Stepney Green Coats. A very close game but Virginia played with all they had and won the final. Special mention to Soumia Yr 6 who really kept the games alive with not only her skills but her drive to win. Theo and I were so proud of how much determination you had today. ''I have confidence and confidence in me''''I have never experienced a day like this''I have been to many competitions and felt overwhelmed by Virginia's spirit and performance, but today I am utterly speechless. Our Year 5/6 Girls Kwik-Cricket stormed all the way through their matches at the London Youth Games and finished in 3rd place taking home bronze medals. Out of 6 matches, starting in the group stage all the way to the semi finals, they won 5. They worked as a team and performed with such drive and passion. Every single one of them brought something to the team and made it a day to remember.
