Good morning Year 6 and happy holidays!
I hope you have had a safe weekend? Over the next two weeks I will be only blogging once a week with suggestions and ideas that you can do over the holidays. Firstly, with all this time why don't you try and learn a new skill. It can be art, music or languages or even sports. Keep a track of your progress and let us know how you have been getting on! If you want to learn a new language then try this website: https://www.duolingo.com/ it will offer you ideas of languages and give you a great head start!
Good luck and I can't wait to hear what you have learnt!
While I was at school, I discovered a great youtube page that teaches you how to create crafts. I made an Easter basket while at school and I would like you to try and create one! All you need is: paper/card, scissors and glue! Watch the tutorial and send us in your pictures if you make one! If you keep watching, there are other exciting design projects that you can make! I will be trying some too - so look out for any updates!
If you want to keep up with your maths then definitely check out this website
It has fun Easter activities to help you use your maths skills. I thought this card game was a great idea that you could play with your family!
Finally, after Easter we will be thinking about the Ancient Greeks. The Ancient Greeks were great storytellers. There are some exciting myths and legends that we will be reading. Research different Greek myths. You can watch some on youtube like this one:
This website has many myths and legends that you can read and watch and listen to. We will be using this website to help us next term:
Have a go at some of the suggested activities. Let us know how you are doing and look out next week for some updates and any new suggestions! For now, be safe and have a good break. I look forward to seeing your great work and will be in touch soon!
Love from Salma and Clare! :)
Hello again Year 6! I am back!
Hope you've had a good two days with Clare and Emily! Thank you for sending all your work in! I have lots to share with you!
Nusrat and Ismail have been busy reporting on purple mash! Read their articles for some great advice!
You have been trying hard with your maths on purple mash! Keep sending in your work and if you are not sure - ask using the blog on purple mash... Thank you Aman and Sara for completing yesterdays challenge! Let's see more of you having a go. I will try and upload a tutorial for you to follow next time.
Zhraa has taken Clare's advice and has baked some yummy peanut butter cookies! Take a look at these!
So, let's get on with the learning!
For today I would like you to try and solve these maths problems: For question 1: think about what you need to make a whole. Dora spent £72 which was the same a 1/3. Use this to help you. For question 2: how do you work out the area of a triangle? Good Luck!
To conclude our work on The Lady of Shalott, I would like you to write from the perspective of the mirror.
Finally... over the next 2 weeks, I will not be blogging everyday but will set you some tasks at the beginning of each week. I will still be available on purple mash if you need anything or have any questions anytime. Don't worry- but be patient if it takes a while to respond. I wish you a safe, and peaceful Easter break. I miss you loads and saw this picture in school yesterday that made me smile. I hope it makes you smile too. Also, for Aqilah... a picture of me yesterday racing Hayat on the pitch... and Cathy... sorry for adding your name to Aman's work!
Be good and be kind- and KEEP WASHING YOUR HANDS!!
Salma and Clare :)

This week has gone very fast.. It is Thursday already! I am loving all of your baking posts too- I am very inspired by all of your baked goodies! Clare's peanut butter cookies look devine!
It really is SO important that you are spending a part of your day doing something you that you enjoy!
I am SUPER excited because my keyboard that I ordered is arriving tomorrow - I have always wanted to learn how to play an instrument! Have you ever wanted to play an instrument? Barbara and Lucy are learning how to play the guitar at the moment.. so who knows.. a VPS band may be forming (Salma and Clare will be our back up dancers as they have all the moves!) Watch this space!
Your home learning has been fantastic so far.It has been great creating 'virtual classrooms' and I am so happy to see all of the effort you are putting in!
See below for your home learning for today....

Good Morning Year 6.....
It's time to pack your virtual bags, grab a snack and let's go on a virtual trip to.... Athens!
In preparation for your new topic, let's explore the beautiful and majestic Parthenon, Acropolis in Athens.
Click on the link below and follow the curser around. It will give you a 360 degree perspective of this wonderful place.
Remember to click the arrows to allow you to wonder up, down and around. Once you have completed your tour, answer the following questions and send them into me. You can complete this on purple mash too.
1. What is the Parthenon, Acropolis?
2. What could you see there?
3. How did you feel being there?
4. Why did the Ancient Greeks go there?
If you are finding it difficult to navigate then try this instead:
Have fun on the trip!
Once you have returned, have a go at this maths arithmetic paper... lets see if you can remember the strategies we used in class!
Salma and Clare :)
Hi Year 5 and 6!!!
I hope that you are all well and making the most of your home-learning opportunities! Salma and Theo have been creating such fabulous resources and activities for you to complete. You guys are so fantastic at learning!!
I have been busy on my ELSA blog (which you can find on the school website) Salma will attach a photo to show you how to find it. It really is so important that we look after our mental well-being during this time. I try to post different activities associated with looking after our mental health.
My aim is to create a virtual ‘The Space’ on Purple Mash where we can communicate whenever you may need to talk about a worry or if you want just have a chat /take part in an activity to brighten your day :)
I am logging into Purple Mash each day to check on what you are all doing (the learning is AMAZING) and I am replying to any messages that I receive - PLEASE do message me! I love to hear from you! It really makes my day to know what you’re up too and how you are enjoying the learning.
Remember though, little and often home learning is better than cramming it all into one day! You should also take the time in your day to look after your physical and mental health.
DO things that you makes you feel HAPPY! Please don't spend too much time on technology! ( I can sense the eye roll at this statement haha)
Whether you...read your favourite book, bake a yummy cake, listen to some music, dance around your living room, see how many kick ups you can do in 30 seconds, doodle on paper, build a fort from pillows and blankets or relax to your favourite movie...
Do something that makes you feel happy!!
I know at the moment it can feel a little bit daunting for some of you. Not knowing when we may return to school or when you will get to see relatives and friends is scary for a young person to understand but just imagine the immense feeling you will feel when you are finally reunited with the people that you love. You will learn so much from this experience. You will learn how to be grateful for what you have and that material things really don’t mean nothing at all.
Just before I go...
Think of this experience as like being stuck in traffic in a tunnel. You know and you can see the light at the end which is the way out. You don’t know how long you may be stuck in this tunnel. You may begin to get bored, you may try find things to do to keep you entertained in this dark tunnel. You may get annoyed, increasingly frustrated... BUT what keeps you calm is that you know that there IS a way out and you’ll get there soon. Keep moving towards the light at the end. We will all be out of this tunnel soon.
Keep positive - keep smiling - keep being YOU!
Missing you all more everyday!Take care & wash ya hands!
How has your day been so far?
I just wanted to share some of the great learning sent in by some of our class via the school email and on purple mash! Well done Aman again! He has successfully completed the maths challenge. Did anyone else have go...? Let me know on purple mash or via the school email.
