Konnichiwa Year 5!
I have a few more announcements this morning. First all, Barbara has written a new newsletter. You can always find the newsletters on the school website homepage. Please read and let your parents know! Newsletters are a really important way for the school to give updates. Here is a link below.
Please check out Emily's ELSA blog. She has been working hard posting loads of ideas to help you during lock down including timetables. You can also find this on the school website homepage. Check it out daily.
Finally, the school has decided to set up a book swap. This means that each class will be able to come to school and pick up a new home reading book. Before we went into lock down, I let a lot of you take 2/3 books home. If you have finished them, bring them in and drop them off before you pick up a new one.
It will work with a timetable, Year 5 will be allowed to come to school and pick up a book on Fridays between 10am - 12pm. You can come anytime between those hours. Please do not come at any other time. It will be very quick. You will drop off your finished book and pick up a new book. You will receive a message from Joan with details also. But if you have any other questions please ask your parents to contact Barbara.
Our learning today
Lo: to analyse a section of an article
Today I would like you to read and unpick the final section of our article.
In your books can you answer these questions. Use evidence from the text when appropriate.
What does the final section tell us?
What are the key issues it addresses?
What have we learnt about plastic pollution?
How is the author trying to make us feel?
What questions do you have?
Lo: to calculate the volume of a shape
Let's start off with some CLIC questions:
73,233,280 + 9,274,921
633 x 287
7162 ÷ 37
Let's have a look at a shape without measurements..
This shape is 4 cubes long. So 4cm length.
It is has a 1 cube width. So 1cm width.
And it has a 2 cube height. So 2cm height.
So using our formula - L x W x H.
Let's start by multiply the length and width.
4 x 1 = 4
Now let's multiply that answer by the height.
4 x 2 = 8
So the volume of this shape is 8 cm³
Have a go at these...
Louise suggests, if you want a little more practice, check this link out.
Lo: to describe the life process of reproduction in animals
Yesterday we discovered the life cycles of different species. The first stage in all living things life cycle is birth. In order for them to live they have to be born. And before they are born some amazing things have to happen.
Today I would like you to log into Espresso and have a read through these three stages of the process. Reproduction, fertilisation and birth. Please take notes about what you discover under those three sub headings. Espresso gives you clear definitions for all the new vocabulary. Write any new words in your Vocab book. As always, ask me any questions on Purple Mash. I am here to help.
Have a great day! Theo :)
