Welcome to the Year 3 Blog page. Here you will find lots of photos and some examples of the children's work showing all the exciting things we have been learning about and doing in class. Spring term: This terms topic has been gardens and growing. We have been looking at the world's biggest gardens, the rainforests, discussing their importance for are plant and the consequences of deforestation. We have also been creating our own dream gardens on a virtual website. In science we have also been creating various fair tests, recording and discussing the results and what they show. This term we have also been part of a special ICT project where the children have been making a digital video diary of the sceince experiements they have designed and conducted, this has included script writing, filming, presenting and editing all of which the children have really enjoyed participating in. We have also been to London's Kew Gardens, where the children got to experience being in a real rainforest environment (in the hot green houses), discovering first hand the various, wonderous plantlife that can be found within a rainforest. The size of some of the plants and trees overwhemled many of the children not to mention the 'teeth' on the Venus flytraps. During the second half of the Autumn term our main topic was 'treasure'. This allowed us to focus on the many treasures that have been discovered through archaeology and how that has given us clues and information about the past. We mainly concentrated on The Romans, looking at many artefacts that have been discovered and what they tell us about life in Britian during the Roman invasion. We also got to visit All Hallows Church, which has a number of Roman ruins on display including an oringinal roman road covered in mosaics for an ancient Roman workshop. During the first half of the Autumn term our topic was The Earth, as part of this topic we focused on rocks and soils, volcanoes and earthquakes. During this topic the children had the opportunity to create and present power point presentations in pairs on a range of related topics of their own choosing. Here are a couple of examples. We also used some small pebbles to create some cool rock art.
