Good morning children! How are you coping with the heat? As I said yesterday, I actually decided to go to the beach with my family. It was really busy but we managed to find a nice spot to sit down and relax. For lunch we had fish and chips and had to get ice creams and slush for the children. Here are some pictures from the trip. Do send pictures of anything fun and interesting you are doing at home.
Yamin shared pictures of his plants that he has been growing in the garden. He is standing next to a sunflower plant which has grown as tall as him. He has also managed to grow one strawberry! Who do you think ate that red, juicy strawberry?
Aaliyah shared a lovely collage of things that she has been doing at home. You have to teach me how to play chess Aaliyah. She also shared some of her home learning from our blogs.
I am super proud of your hard work Aaliyah. Love the dragon Harmony and all the creative descriptions. You have done amazingly with the literacy activity. Love the illustration of George making the medicine. You can confidently use direct speech with inverted commas and added exciting verbs instead of said. Great work in your multiplication problems. You are fluent in your times table facts and you are finding different ways to show what multiplication actually means. The table with the temperatures for the daily weather is fantastic and you have drawn the thermometers to read scales using standard unit degree Celsius. Amazing effort Aaliyah.
I am so pleased Ishaq H to see your home learning. What a fantastic effort! Great drawing of your dragon, looks vicious. Well done on the literacy challenges. I can see you are using inverted commas correctly for direct speeches. You have printed the worksheets which is great. I know how much you enjoy your maths learning, you are confident in solving multiplication problems and using your times table facts and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s fluently. Brilliant work Ishaq.
Aseeya amazing home learning. You have made a suitable prediction and added lots of detail. I can see that you have added some interesting verbs and adverbs in your prediction. I like how original you were with the prediction because we will be writing the next chapter on our own. Fantastic work in your maths challenges. your brain is growing and you are becoming more confident in your own learning. Well done Aseeya. I am proud of you!
Have you ever been on a hike? Read about Mandy's first ever hiking with her grandfather.
There are few words that has been accidentally joined together so it might be difficult to read some of them. But you can try to look for the small words in big words.
I know some of you are probably frustrated because i haven't shared the next chapter with you yet. This is because we are going to be writing the next chapter ourselves. Don't worry we will work on it together and try to come up with some exciting writing for the chapter called 'Grandma Gets the Medicine'
We have done some work on direct speeches and learning to use inverted commas. We all need more practice. Today, we are going to start thinking about the conversation Grandma and George might have before she gets the medicine.
We are going to create dialogues for each character.
I have come up with new dialogues for the characters. Can you come up with more dialogues? What could George be asking her? Grandma might snap again. What could be the reason?
When you multiply a single digit number by 10 what happens to the number?
For example; 3 x 10 = 30
30 is how many times bigger than 3?
If you know 3 x 10 = 30
You can use this fact to work out 3 x 11 = ?
Explain how you did it?
Try this one: 5 x 10 = 50
5 x 11 = ?
5 x 12= ?
Did you have to count from 5? Did you count on your fingers? You don't need to because you know what is 5 x 10 already.
The most efficient way of working out is to use what you know.
You know that 5 x 10 = 50 5 x 1 = 5
so 5 x 11 would be another 5 more.
Which is 50 + 5 =55
2 x 11 4 x 11 6 x 11
5 x 12 2 x 11 10 x 11
2 x 15 3 x 13 10 x 12
5 x 15 4 x 12 10 x 14
Think about where you live and the things you have around you. Can you design your own town with all the important features that your community will need to stay healthy and active. You can draw your map or you can use card boards and junk materials to build your town with labels.
Discuss how this town could be made healthier – eg swimming pool
Can you add healthy landmarks in the town? – park, dentist, doctors, fruit and veg market etc.
