Good morning Year 6!
Welcome back to a new term! I hope that you had a safe and peaceful Easter break? I have spent the time trying learn a new skill! I am trying to balance on my gym ball and I am nearly there! I need to persevere and hopefully I will get there soon!
So, before we start with our learning, I would like to welcome two new members to our Year 6 family! Welcome to Saifeldin and Quinell to our class. I hope that it isn't too long before we meet you in school! Year 6- it would be great if you could send a hello message on purple mash and I will upload them on here for our new friends to see.
This term is all about the amazing Ancient Greeks! To begin with, I would like you to research and present back what Greece is like today. Here are some things you could find out:
1. National Flag
4. Names of cities and islands
5. Climate and Weather
6. Famous People
7. Greek words
8. Any other interesting facts.
You could create a fact file, poster or information page. Remember to always site where you found your information from.
In literacy we will be reading and writing Greek Myths. Read the opening of this story and answer the questions using the evidence in the text: You could do this on lined paper or on the computer.
Using the text above can you identify the noun phrases. There are 8 in the first paragraph. Write a list of the ones you can identify. What would happen if I changed them? Try and rewrite the opening paragraph with different noun phrases. Does it change the way we read the text or its meaning?
Have a go and send in your paragraphs to email@example.com
This term in maths, we will begin with problem solving and learning how to create line graphs. Firstly, I found this maths challenge on the maths mastery website and enjoyed solving it. See if you can work it out:
Here are some clues:
1. Think about numbers that are divisible by 5- what do they look like? What does that tell us about the letter C?
2. If the second number is not divisible by 5- then does that tell us about the letter B?
3. Which numbers are divisible by 7 and 5? That should help us with the letter C
4. Can you remember any prime numbers? If ACB is an even number then which prime numbers begin with an even number and end in a digit which can be found in a number in the 7 times table?
Good luck! I can't wait to see the way you tackle this problem!
In science we will be learning about staying healthy and the human body. Watch this clip from BBC bitesize and try the online activity. Create a poster about the food groups and why we need them.
Watch this helpful clip to help you with your food group poster:
Good luck with your work today! I look forward to seeing it handed in at the school email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Remember you can take a photo of it and send it in or upload and documents or PowerPoints. You could even use purple mash and complete your work on the templates.
Have a great day and look out for any updates!
Salma and Clare :)
