Namaste Year 5! Today is our long awaited book swap day. I know Oliul and Ismail have been looking forward to this. Please bring your old books and come to school between 2-3pm. Always remember to stay safe and keep your distance. Special mentions to Dylan, Ismail, Orson, Suhan, Adeela and Ahmed for sharing their Mnemonics for remembering the order of the planets. They were all very creative and funny :) Keep sending me your work to: admin@virginia.towerhamlets.sch.uk Our Learning Today Literacy: Lo: to write a short story Your task for today is to write the opening paragraph of the story. This will be the story in your imagination. You have seen images and heard sounds. Yesterday you created a story board with some scenes from the film. So I would like you to use all of this to help you write the opening paragraph of your story. Remember that this is made up and you can compare it to the real story when we start watching the film. Maths: Lo: to use coordinates in two quadrants Let's start off with some CLIC questions: 78,291,395 + 78,381,499 100,348,583 - 68,832,993 463 x 226 4523 ÷ 27 Ok so today we are going to extend our grids and make them bigger. We are going to be using grids with 2 quadrants. This means we will have two sections to our grid. Have a look at this one below. ![]() We can plot coordinates across quadrants. We still follow the same rule. X axis first then Y axis. But now we might have to move backwards along the X axis. Look at (-3,4) on the grid. To find it on our grid we have to start at the 0 and move left on the X axis. Still along the flat horizontal line but we move into the negative numbers. When we reach -3, we then move up the Y axis and get to the 4. Have a look at this example. ![]() To find the coordinates for this point we have to start at the 0 and always move along the X axis first. But this time we have to move left. If we follow along the X axis, we should get to -7.Now we have to move up the Y axis to find the other coordinate. You should reach 7. When we write coordinates, we always write the X axis first then the Y axis. Use brackets and a comma in the middle So the coordinates for this point are (-7,7) Here is another example. ![]() Again, to find the coordinates of this point, we have to use the X axis first. If we start in the middle at 0, we have to move left into the negative numbers. You should reach -9. Now move up the Y axis, you should reach 1. When we write coordinates, we always write the X axis first then the Y axis. Use brackets and a comma in the middle. So the coordinates for this point are (-9,1) Now it's your turn. Here is a two quadrant grid. I would like you to write down the coordinates for each point on the grid. Remember to use the X axis first then the Y axis. Always write your coordinates inside brackets with a comma in the middle. Your challenge for today is draw a two quadrant grid and plot 5 points on your grid. Take your time and use a ruler. Don't forget to write the coordinates of your points.
P.E: Today I would like you to warm up with some movement practice from last week's P.E. Now I would like you to join Premier League team Burnley FC for some training. Follow the link. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/just-for-fun-super-movers-matchday-warm-up-l1/zvdb6v4 Spanish: Check out the Spanish blog for this week's lesson. Enjoy your day.
