Bonjour Year 5! Hope you had a great first day back at virtual school. Thank you for being so active on Purple Mash yesterday. It was really great to hear from so many of you. Thanks to Winston, Suhan and Orson for starting new topic posts. It is a great way to lead a discussion or debate. Make sure we keep spreading the message to our classmates about this blog and Purple Mash, just in case some of them have forgotten that school has started again. I will be starting phone calls home soon so that I can catch up with you all. I have spoken to some of you already before Easter but I will make it more regular now. So have any questions ready for me, I will try my best to help. Also please remember to send pictures any of work you are proud of or any videos you have made to me with the school email: admin@virginia.towerhamlets.sch.uk Our learning today Literacy Lo: to make predictions I would like you to look at the picture below. This is the main image from our article... ![]() What do you see? What questions do you have? What do you think has happened to this whale and why? What might our article be about? Use your work book to answer these questions and make your predictions. Maths Lo: to calculate perimeter of composite rectilinear shapes Recap: we learnt that the perimeter of a shape is the total length around a shape. A composite rectilinear shape is made up of more than one shape with straight lines. Today I would like us to continue to practice this skill. Can you find the perimeter of this shape. Look at the question below. Think about what measurements could make a perimeter of 42cm. There any many answers. Can you think of at least two different ways to make this shape have a perimeter of 42cm. Today I would like you do create a variety of your own composite rectilinear shapes but with these specific perimeters. Remember that the perimeter is the total length of all the sides of the shape. 29cm 35cm 42cm 16cm 53cm Here are today's challenges. You do not need to do them all. ![]()
To help support us with our learning, Louise will sometimes be giving us extra suggestions to help with our topics . Try this link for some extra practice.. https://www.softschools.com/math/geometry/perimeter.jsp Topic Lo: to summarise a UN global goal What do you know about the UN global goals? Why were they created? I would like you check this link out and explore the 17 goals that the UN and world leaders set out to change the world for the better. Read through them and have a think about what they mean and what they are for. https://www.globalgoals.org/ For today's task, I would like you to choose at least one of the goals and summarise what it is. Give examples and use the information on the website. Have a great day. Theo :) Comments are closed.
