Buenos Dias Year 5! Thanks to those of you for coming into school yesterday for the book swap. The swaps will now be every 2 weeks. Our next swap will be on Wednesday 24th June. Just another reminder to check out the assemblies, music and ELSA blogs. Also makes sure you are reading the latest newsletter every week with your parents to find out any updates from school. Special mention to Orson for sending me his solar system poster and some of his coordinates work. Well done for all the hard work! Please keep sending me the work you are most proud of to: admin@virginia.towerhamlets.sch.uk Our Learning Today Literacy: Lo: to unpick the opening scenes Today we are going to watch the opening scenes to our film. Watch it as many times as you need. Answer these questions in your book:
Maths: Lo: to use coordinates in four quadrants Let's start off with some CLIC questions: 123,357,843 + 63,673,812 48,663,223 - 9,553,832 263 x 355 4356 ÷ 29 Ok today we are going to grow our grids again. We are going to be using a full 4 quadrant grid. This means our grids now have 4 sections. Check the example out below. ![]() Now that we have 4 quadrants, we have move left or right on the X axis and we can move up and down on the Y axis. We still follow the same rules. Always use the X axis first and the us the Y axis. Find (-4,-2) on the grid. To plot that point you must move to the left on the x axis and you get to -4. Then you move down the Y axis and you get to -2. Here is my first example. ![]() To find that point we continue to follow our rules. X axis is always first. So we move to the right along the X axis and we should reach 1. Then we move down the Y axis and we should reach -4. Always write the X axis first and then the Y axis. Use brackets and a comma in the middle. The coordinates for this point are (1,-4) Here is one more example. ![]() Using the X axis first, we have to move left and we should reach -5. Then we move down the Y axis and we should reach -3. Always remember to write the X axis first and then the Y axis. Use brackets and a comma in the middle The coordinates for this point are (-5,-3) Have a look at this 4 quadrant grid. Find the coordinates for each point. Don't forget to use the X axis and then the Y axis. Use brackets and a comma in the middle. Your challenge for today is to draw a 4 quadrant grid. Plot 5 points across the whole grid. Use a ruler and take your time drawing the grid. Write the coordinates for your points. For some extra practice and more challenges with 1,2 or 4 quadrants. Louise suggests you have a go at this: https://www.teacherled.com/iresources/coordinates/showthecoordinate/ R.E: Lo: What helps Muslims through the journey of life? Muslims believe that there are certain things that help them through life. Before we look at those things I would like you to draw a brainstorm in your book of everything you believe you need to help you through life. Put 'life' in the middle of your page and fill your brainstorm with ideas and thoughts. Think about what is important and how it will help you through your life. Now I would like you to choose 5 of those things. Can you write 5 sentences with this sentence starter: Through the journey of life I will need....because... Ok so we have explored how we feel and what we think we will need to help us through life's journey. Muslims believe in the 5 pillars of Islam. These 5 pillars are the things that help them through their spiritual life. The five pillars of Islam are Shahadah - a belief in one God, Salah - prayer, five times a day, Sawm- fasting in the month of Ramadan, Hajj - pilgrimage and Zakah- the giving of alms(giving to charity regularly. Have a watch of this video for some more details. Can you make a poster for the 5 pillars of Islam and explain what each is and how a Muslim person acts on them. I have set this as a 2do on Purple Mash. It is called 'About the five pillars of Islam'.
Have a great day! Theo :) Comments are closed.
