Ciao Year 5! Welcome to a new week of learning. Keep up those growth mindsets and being brave learners. Always remember to have a go at the tasks and never be afraid to fail. Every time you make a mistake, it is a chance to learn and grow. Please send me the work you are most proud of to: admin@virginia.towerhamlets.sch.uk Our Learning Today Literacy: Lo: to make predictions So we have now had a peek at some images from the film and listened to some sounds from the film. Before we do anything else, I want you to spend today's literacy lesson creating a brainstorm about everything you know about the story so far. I want you to make up a title for this film; put that in the middle of your page. Now make some predictions: Who are the characters? What happens in the story? Where is it set? What questions do you have? Maths: Lo: what are coordinates? Let's start off with some CLIC questions: 73,092,441 + 23,588,661 87,223,023 - 64,245,222 584 x 236 9732 ÷ 51 Our new topic for this week is coordinates. Coordinates are points on a grid that we identify with 2 numbers, these numbers show the position of the point. Grids have two axes, y and x. Y is vertical and X is horizontal. ![]() This is a grid. This grid has one quadrant. It has an X axis and a Y axis. Can you see them? Start from 0 and use your finger to see the direction they move. X moves to the right and Y goes up. The points on the grid are identified by coordinates. We look along the X axis first and find out the first number then we look up the Y axis and find the second number. (3,2) Look at this coordinate on the grid. Can you see the blue dot. We find that blue dot with the coordinates. This means we move 3 squares to the right along the X axis. Then we move up 2 squares along the Y axis. We write coordinates inside brackets with a comma in the middle of the 2 numbers. Remember you have to write the X axis first and the Y axis second. (1,3) Follow these link to BBC Bitesize. They give you a few more examples, videos and some games to practice. Today I just want us to understand the rules. Can you make a poster in your book with the rules. Answer these questions in your poster: What are coordinates? What information do you find on a grid? How do you write coordinates? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zgthvcw/articles/z96k9qt https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zgthvcw/resources/1 Science: Lo: Our Solar System Today we are going to learn about space and our solar system. The universe is huge and we live on a planet called Earth which is in one small solar system in the The Milky Way Galaxy. Read through the facts below. Now that you have learnt a bit about the planets in our solar system, I would like you to make a poster all about The Milky Way. It needs to include facts about each planet. You can use some of mine or research your own on Kiddle. You should also have drawings of each planet. Be creative, make it fun and exciting for the reader. I can't wait to see them. Send me pictures of your posters to admin@virginia.towerhamlets.sch.uk Here is a video I wanted to share with you. It shows you the difference in sizes of our planets and the biggest objects in space. We are very very very very small. Have a great day! Theo :) Comments are closed.
