Czesc Year 5!
How did you find the grammar lesson? Try to post some of your examples on Purple Mash. Special mention to Sabrina, she posted a great example of using a causal connective. I am looking forward to seeing more of your work. Please send your favourite examples in to me...
A reminder that today is year 5's reading book swap day. If you have finished reading your school books and you would like a new one, the school is inviting you in today to trade. Come in, any time between 10am - 12pm. It will have to be a quick visit so that everyone can stay safe and social distance but we are looking forward to welcoming you back, even if it is just for a few minutes. Remember to take care, stay at least 2 metres away from anyone else waiting to get a book. I know it can be exciting to see your friends but please stay a safe distance away from each other. Louise will be there to help and she is really looking forward to seeing you..
Our learning today
Lo: To use powerful vocabulary
Now that we are gaining more understanding about plastic pollution and the damage it is doing to our oceans, I am going to show you a set of images. They are all very sad as animals, humans and the Earth have been hurt because of the pollution that humans cause. Have a look at these and start to think about how they make you feel and what has happened...
I would like you to make a list of powerful/ambitious words to describe these images.
Think about how they make you feel..
Think about what you can see..
Think about what you feel is happening..
Start by writing a list of words that first come to your mind and then look for your words in a thesaurus to find ambitious synonyms to help you expand your vocabulary. Here is an online thesaurus if you don't have one..
Lo: to calculate the volume of a shape
Let's start off with some CLIC questions:
123,589,591 + 73,283,699
83,572,091 - 61,682,445
237 x 573
5652 ÷ 27
Finally to end the week I have some more volume challenges and a link to two investigations. Keep up the growth mindset Year 5. I know you can do it.
Here are the links to the investigations. Have a go. Don't worry if you find them challenging. That is a good thing. Use your growth mindset and try your best. You do not need to do them both.
Today I would like you to lead a P4C session with you family. Start with a game. Then try this sticky question.
Finally I would like you to listen to this song and read the lyrics. It is called Imagine and it is written and performed by John Lennon. What do you agree with and what do you disagree with? What is the important message in this song? Does it have any relevance to our situation at the moment? Let me know on Purple Mash I have started a P4C post for this one...
Have a wonderful weekend Year 5! Speak to you on Monday. Have a great day! Theo :)
