How has your week started?
What did you predict might happen in the film?
How did you find the work on tenths and hundredths?
There's no book swap today, this week it's on Thursday morning from 10am - midday. It was great that so many of you were able to go last week, don't forget to head along this week and swap your books. If you didn't go last week, don't worry, there's a pile of specially picked books waiting for you.
Here's today's "Talk it out Tuesday".
English - Writing
We will get on to watching the film, but today we are going to work on further developing our descriptive writing.
Imagine you describing this scene to someone over the phone. They can’t see it themselves so you need to explain what it looks likes.
We have done lots of work on descriptive writing this year and this has included work about expanded noun phrases (we recapped this last week - https://www.virginia.towerhamlets.sch.uk/year-4-blog/tuesday-5th-may-2020), show not tell and fronted adverbials (https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zp937p3).
Using these three features, your task is to write a paragraph describing the picture.
This is a piece of writing that you should either post on the new Purple Mash blog for this film or email using Joan’s email address.
English - Reading
Read Chapter 2 of Pirate Family Smith and answer the questions on Purple Mash. It's good to see those of you who have already read it and answered the questions. Make sure you're all reading along this week.
Select the correct spellings to complete the sentences below.
The punctuation is missing from the sentence below. Rewrite the sentence adding the correct punctuation.
Are you feeling more confident with tenths and hundredths?
Today we’re going to think about how we can represent tenths as a fraction and as a decimal.
Watch this video:
It reminds us what tenths are and shows us how they can be shown as fractions and decimals.
Remember, when we use our place value grid the column to the right of the decimal point is the tenths column.
So we can write something as 1/10 but we can also write it 0.1.
Have a go at these questions. Remember you can use Purple Mash to ask for help, well done to Uzayr for asking for clarification yesterday.
Question 3 (When answering this question try to give a reason for why you think it's the best.)
CHALLENGE Question 4
This week, we’re back to looking at the history of technology. Over the past 90 years there have been some huge changes in the technology that we use in our houses. Telephones, computers, radio and televisions are all very different to how they once were.
Today’s task is to write a report explaining how technology has changed since the 1930s. You can do your own research or use the information below.
Once you have collected your research, you can either create your own poster or publish it on Purple Mash.
When we do research and use it there are two things we should make sure we do.
Stay safe and keep working hard.
