How is your week going?

There has been some fantastic work sent in this week. Check back later for the good learning and special mention blog.

Here is today's Thinking Thursday task.

English - Writing

Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelt differently and have different meanings. We have looked at some already this year. Today we are going to recap them to make sure we are secure in knowing which word to use.

Have a look at some of the examples below.
Now use these tasks below to become more confident with different homophones.

English - Reading

How are you finding the story? Have you had a look at the competition?

Today, we're going to read Chapter 4: https://www.theickabog.com/the-quiet-house/

Your task when you have finished reading the chapter is to write a letter.

Re-read this section of the chapter

Finally, he could bear it no longer, and summoned the Chief Advisor to him.
‘Herringbone,’ he said, not looking the old man in the eye, ‘there’s a house on the corner, on the way to the park. Rather a nice cottage. Large-ish garden.’
‘The Dovetail house, Your Majesty?’
‘Oh, that’s who lives there, is it?’ said King Fred airily. ‘Well, it occurs to me that it’s rather a big place for a small family. I think I’ve heard there are only two of them, is that correct?’
‘Perfectly correct, Your Majesty. Just two, since the mother—’
‘It doesn’t really seem fair, Herringbone,’ King Fred said loudly, ‘for that nice, spacious cottage to be given to only two people, when there are families of five or six, I believe, who’d be happy with a little more room.’
‘You’d like me to move the Dovetails, Your Majesty?’
‘Yes, I think so,’ said King Fred, pretending to be very interested in the tip of his satin shoe.

Write a letter to the Dovetails ordering them to move to a smaller cottage near the graveyard. This is an order so think carefully about the language you use. Will you make your order brief and short or will you make the order sound nicer with some information about why this is a good choice.

Maths

Yesterday, we started looking at money. Today we are going to be ordering and comparing amounts of money.

This involves using lots of the knowledge you have gained over the past few weeks.

There are lots of videos on this blog from these lessons, if there is something confusing you, have a look back through and find the one that helps you.

Computing

This term, we are going to be focussing on learning a bit more about how computer systems work.

Follow this link to find out how computer systems work.

Now have a go at playing this game where you will learn a new word – abstraction.

Your new understanding of the term abstraction should help you in this game all about using search engines.

Don't forget...

  • You should be completing all your work and submitting it to us either by email or by uploading it to Purple Mash. There are a large number of you whose work we haven't seen at all during this whole time we've been off school.
  • Keep in contact with us on Purple Mash, we like hearing what you're getting up to.
  • Check back later for good learning and special mentions.

Stay safe, work hard and be kind,

Ruth and Emily
