Rise and shine Y2. I hope you didn't walk straight into the wall like Mr Bean this morning. Hope you had a good weekend. It was a little cloudy and rainy but hopefully it will get warmer in the next few days. I have received some fantastic home learning from Maddie, Amelia and Yahya C . Yahya C - You have summarized the opening chapter of George's Marvelous medicine with added details. I like the way you have used varied sentence starters and used conjunctions and noun phrases to show and not tell. I am really impressed with your handwriting too. I am looking forward to seeing more work from you Yahya. Well done! Amelia - You have been sharing lots of your learning which is great to see. Lovely diagram of the frog cycle from the book we read and lovely presentation too. Well done on completing the Maths challenges. You have measured everyone using cm and ordered them in height order. You have used adjectives to describe Grandma. For a challenge, I want you think about how she sounds when she talks, drinks or eats using similes. Keep up the good work Amelia! Maddie - You have been fantastic at sharing your home learning and showing growth mindset while doing the work. Great job with the frog life cycle. I like the character profile of George, which has lots of information and you have added his thoughts and feelings. Well done on measuring and ordering length using symbols. Also, you have challenged yourself and started learning about converting centimetres (cm) into metres (m). Superb effort Maddie ReadingDo you remember what Shay's favorite animal is? It lives on grasslands and has a long neck. Yes you guessed it... its a GIRAFFE! Today, I want you to read the story of Ginger the Giraffe. Did you enjoy reading the book? What do we think of Ginger? We have people in our class that are just like Ginger, who are kind and helpful. Find as many nouns (names - Ginger) and noun phrases (an adjective before a noun - long legs). You can write them down or orally say them out loud or point at the screen. LiteracyRead the next few pages from chapter 1. What is your impression of Grandma? Do you like any of the things that Grandma drools over? Like caterpillars, slugs, beetles and earwigs, Yuck! I want you to write a sentence about each of the things that Grandma likes and explain why. Use the book to help you. Think about the reasons she gives George to convince him. MathsThis week we will carry on measuring but not length or height. This week we will focus on measuring capacity and volume. What do you think the word 'capacity' means? Look around the room. Have you got any juice cartoon, bottle of water or a drink? Go and get it. Can you find out how much water or drink it can hold? It could be that it is not full or half full or completely full. Capacity is how much something can hold and volume means how much it is actually holding. Lets say Shay can hold 30 marbles in one hand altogether. If I put one more marble it drops. This is capacity. So the capacity of one hand holding amount of marbles is 30. But I can hold 1 marble in my hand or 2 or 3 and so on. This is volume. Volume is how much I am actually holding at anytime before it reaches 30 marbles. Activity 1: I want you to find different jars, containers, bottles around the house and fill them with water (you can add color for fun). Can you order them in their capacity order. Which has the largest capacity and which has the smallest? Activity 2: Get 3 containers or jars. Fill them up with water or rice so that one of them is full, one is half full and one is three quarters full. Design and Technology (food)Today I want to make your own healthy smoothie using your chosen fruit or any fruit that you have in your house. What are the some of the things that you need to think about before starting? What ingredients will you need? What equipment will you need? Are there any dangers of using equipment? Work with an adult to keep safe and make sure you write the instructions step by step so that someone else can make your smoothie by reading your instructions. Below is a video to help you and also a template to help you write your instructions. Please do send in pictures of your smoothies! I am sure they will taste great and refreshing.
