Rise and shine Year 2! Hope you all had a restful weekend. I will be making some calls this week to see how you are getting on with your home learning. It would be nice to hear from you and I can answer any questions you may have.  I still have books for some children to collect this Wednesday. Please send in your work via email to Joan.

I have received lots of fantastic home learning from Mohammed. Well done Mohammed for uploading all your work on PurpleMash by yourself. Apologies for not putting them up on our blog earlier. I am so impressed at your presentation and how motivated you are to do the learning at home. Your fractions work look great and you are very confident in finding halves, thirds and quarters of shapes, objects and numbers. I love your ideas about the tree, you have put a lot of thought into it. Also, great map of our school and where to find trees and plants. It's very clear and detailed. Keep up the good work Mohammed!

Assembly

Have a look at what Barbara is talking about in our assembly this week.

Reading

Read this funny book called 'The Day the Crayons Quit.'

1. Name some of the things red crayon worked on?

2. Why wasn't the purple crayon happy?

3. What are the small things grey crayon suggested that Duncan can draw and why?

4. What is the reason for yellow and orange crayon arguing?

5. Why was the blue crayon short and tired?

6. Is there anything wrong in using pink crayon?

How is your story coming along? Today I want you to go over what you have done so far. Read it back. Have you got a beginning that introduces your character? Have you described the setting? Have you given extra information about your character? Is there a sequence in your story? Are things happening in order? Have you used noun phrases to describe and used conjunctions to add more detail in a sentence? Use a different colour pen to edit and improve your writing. use the checklist to help you.

Checklist:
capital letters and full stop.
story opener (Long ago, In a crowded city, Faraway in a town)
different sentence starters.
sequence (is it in order?)
noun phrases (adjectives)
verbs (doing words)
written in past tense

Please send in your story to me so I can have a look at it and give you tickled pink and green for growth.

Maths

If you were to get some money from someone and they asked you this:

Would you rather have 1/4 of £20  or 1/3 of £21?

What would you say to them and why?

Computing

Today we are going to use loops to complete a task when giving instructions. Instead of writing the same code again and again we could just use a loop block to command how many times we want our game character do certain actions. Use the pink repeat block to give command you can choose how many times you want the bee to carry out an  action by selecting a number where the ? is. E.g. repeat 2 times - move forward. Click on the link to get started.

Mental Health Awareness Week

It is mental health week this week. We need to look after our minds as well as our body. Mental health affects how you feel and behave.

The theme this year is KINDNESS. What does this mean to you? When someone is having problems we can be kind to them to help them deal with difficulties. Think of a time When you felt really upset and you didn’t know what to do.
How do you think people around you could have shown kindness?
