What fun week 4 has been!

30/9/2020

Firstly, congratulations to our new School Council Representatives:

Big congrats to Yousef and Amira who will be representing Year 2 this year.

Well done to all the children who put themselves forward. The videos of their campaign speeches can be watched below.

Spellings

Everyone has been doing fantastically with their spelling tests and the children are great and pointing out their spelling words when we encounter them in the stories we read together.

Thank you for your support in helping them to learn them.

Maths

Picture
This  week's maths homework is building on last week's work on multiples of tens.

We are looking forward to seeing how quickly they can complete this ten times table challenge!

If you need a stopwatch toytheater.com/stopwatch/ is a good one!

For the second part of the homework, the children may notice that it's difficult to colour ALL the multiples of two because some have already been coloured! They may wish to circle these numbers instead.

Reading

As always, new reading books will be distributed on Monday. Do write us a note in the children's reading records to let us know how they are doing with their reading material.

Have a peaceful and safe weekend. We look forward to seeing what excitement week 6 will bring!

Aoife, Pauline and Shyma.

Week 3 is over already!

24/9/2020

Wow! Week 3 flew! We have been busy learning how to make 2 digit numbers using base ten equipment and writing equations to match. We are about half way through our key text in English and the children have been impressing us with their inference skills. They are great at predicting what will happen next and using the illustrations to search for clues!

We also managed to get some art done in between all that English and Maths and the children have produced some lovely collages. We wish you could come into the classroom to see them but here are some pictures for now. We especially love the WILD hair on Zaheer's creation!

New Spellings

The children are doing great with their spellings - thank you for supporting them at home so well.
This week, we are adding a BONUS WORD! This word is especially tricky but wins you double points in the test!
Remember to look, cover, say, write and check when you are learning them.

woodland
thicket
content
satisfied
peaceful

BONUS WORD!
ferocious
 Good Luck!!

Reading

New reading books will be distributed every Monday to ensure that they all have time to de-COVID over the weekend.
Thank you for your patience. We can send extra books if you feel they are finishing their reading books early in the week. Just write us a message in the reading record to let us know if you would like extra books sent.

Maths Homework

Over the next few weeks, the children will be doing some preparatory work before starting to learn their times tables. This 100 Square Grid will be used to help them so please help them to fill it out accurately. The 'Splat Square' 100 square is a good one for them to use for support if they need it.
It can be found at: https://www.primarygames.co.uk/pg2/splat/splatsq100.html (Or just search for 'Splat Square' and it will come up!

Extra Home Learning

Just in case your family goes into isolation, this take away homework menu should keep your child busy. We will also send Maths that will be specific to your child's learning requirements.
We would love to see photos of the work as they produce it so do email anything they complete into Joan and we will show the class. They can bring anything they are particularly proud of in when they come back after quarantine.

.... And finally!

We voted for our school council representatives on Thursday - they will be announced on Monday.
Good luck Year 2!

It's the end of Week 2!

18/9/2020

Well done, Year 2, on completing another successful week.
This week, we have really consolidated our knowledge of teen numbers, making them out of all sorts of manipulatives and even partitioning them into tens and units.
We have also been describing the settings in our key text 'WILD!' using noun phrases and prepositions.

We have really missed Shyma who has been on university courses all week.

Here's your homework!

Picture

Spellings!

This week's spellings are:

fierce
untame
feral
savage
dwelling

Don't worry, these are not descriptors for you child but some synonyms for 'WILD' that the class came up with!
Spellings will be tested next Friday.

Reading!

Today, your child will be bringing home a levelled reading book and reading record.
These will be changed on a weekly rotation. Please aim to read for about 10 minutes each evening.
Please write us a note saying which pages you have read that evening, if they enjoyed the book and anything that they struggled with. If you think the book is too easy/hard for your child please also let us know.

Maths Homework..

Is coming soon! Watch this space. It will be starting from next Friday.

PE DAY HAS CHANGED!

Due to time tabling issues that are beyond our control, PE will now take place on a Thursday.
Thank you for your flexibility.

Have a peaceful and safe weekend,

Aoife, Shyma and Pauline.

Welcome Back to School!

11/9/2020

Hi Year 2!

Well done on completing your first full week of Year 2!
You have done very well at learning your new routines and settling into your new classroom.
Your teachers are very impressed by how much you remember from year 1!

Here are some pictures of your new classroom for you to show your parents where you learn. Can you spot your seat?
