Good morning Y2! I have started another blog on purplemash for you to ask me any questions about our class blogs on our website. I have received more fantastic home learning from some children. This will encourage others to share their learning too. Mohammed has been busy doing lots of great learning. The plants have grown nice and tall. I am super impressed with your balance in gymnastics with dad. Also, love your presentation in Literacy and Maths work. You are able to use mathematical words to describe turn and movement. Well done Mohammed! Aseeya also shared her work by uploading them on purplemash. I like your role on the wall, it is very detailed and you have explored Agouti's character really well from the story. You are doing great learning on studyladder and you are always up for a challenge. Well done Aseeya! Hayat your cupcakes looks delicious. Now we know what you have been up to. Like your illustration of the Tree of Life. Well done Hayat for sharing! Today's learningReadingLog onto to purplemash and choose any book of your choice and do the activities on there. Can you do a book review of the story you read? The story doesn't have to be from purplemash, if you have a new book that you are reading then you can do a book review for that too. LiteracyHow many exciting verbs did you come up with yesterday? Now read the other section of page two. How do you think Agouti is feeling? Do you think Macounaima has done the right thing by telling everyone about the tree of life? Compare the feeling of the children with Agouti's feeling. Draw the table below and use adjectives write sentences and give reasons for why they are feeling like that.
MathsToday, we will look at patterns. Look around the room can you notice any pattern either on cloths, wall paper or bracelets? I want you to use our new key words to describe patterns. clockwise, anti clockwise, quarter turn, half turn, three quarter turn, full turn Have a go at the challenges below. Read the instructions carefully. GeographyWhat is your favourite fruit and why? I like watermelons and grapes because they are sweet and juicy. Have you ever wondered where your favourite fruit comes from? Some of the fruit you buy from supermarkets are imported (brought) from other countries around the world. For a start, I want you to write a list of fruit that you have tasted so far. Is there any fruit that you really wish to try? Where in the world do you think they grow? I would like to try a dragon fruit! I wonder why they are called that? Here is a picture, but I don't know which countries they grow in. Can you find out for me please? Below are some fruits that grow in different countries. Which ones have you tried? Use the link below to find the continents that these countries are located in. Good luck!
https://www.mapsofworld.com/world-maps/world-map-for-kids.html Merhaba Y2! How are you all doing? I just wanted to give you a heads up about book swap next Wednesday 6th May from 1pm-3pm. All the teachers from Y2 will be in school and we will have new books for you to take home. If you have any books that you have taken from school and finished reading them please bring them back. There will be a box outside for you to leave them in and you will get to collect your new books. I will give you more information about it next week. Now before moving onto today's learning, I have to share some superb learning from the following children: Aaliyah - great work in Literacy, love your role on the wall for Agouti. Also, you found some interesting facts about Brazil and, must say I love your creativity with the title. You can draw pictograms and can interpret data confidently in Maths. I am so pleased with your effort and hard work. Your story about prophet Muhammed in RE was inspiring. Did you know that Abyssinia is now known as modern day Ethiopia? Keep up the good work Aaliyah. Maddie - you have been regularly sharing your amazing learning from home. You are making good inferences about our story. Love your drawing from the Sid the Seed. Also, how cool is your face mask! Keep up the good work Maddie. Amelia and Stela also shared their work. What a great drawing of the tree Amelia with all your achievements. Stela fantastic learning in Maths. I can see you are using the new words to describe turns and movements. Yamin has been busy growing plants at home. Make sure they get enough sunlight and water to stay healthy. Hope you are finding the Maths challenges enjoyable. Reading Have a go at these fun activities below. The first one is listening and following instructions. Second one is a read along story of Rumble in the Jungle. Third one is reading words using our phonics. How many words can you read correctly? https://pbskids.org/molly/games/dogsled https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/storybooks-and-games/rumble-in-the-jungle/ https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/helpAHedgehog/index.html LiteracyHow did you get on with writing the story ending? Today I will share few paragraphs from the next page from 'The Tree of Life.' Macounaima decided to tell everyone about the tree. Did you predict that? How do you think Agouti feels about it? Look at the illustration above. Can you think of exciting verbs to write full sentences. Remember verb is a doing word. What are the children doing? How many verbs can you come up with? Can you find some other words for climbing, eating, running? You could start your sentence with... The little children climbed up the giant tree. The skinny boy was hanging from the tall tree. MathsHave you managed to learn the new words to describe turns and movement. right turn, left turn, quarter turn, half turn, full turn, clockwise, anti clockwise How many right turns will you need to complete a full turn, half turn? Remember: right turn is same as 1 quarter turn clockwise left turn is same as 1 quarter turn anticlockwise Handwriting and SpellingClick on the links to play the spelling games. http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/spookySpellings/index.html http://www.scootle.edu.au/ec/viewing/L8304/index.html https://www.roythezebra.com/reading-games/capital-letter-1.html Once you have done the spelling games above do the join handwriting below. Good morning children, it's Shyma here. I hope you are all well, and keeping busy with your home learning.
We have seen some fantastic work, and we are all very proud of you! Today I want you to have a go at the following activities: ReadingI want you to read this lovely poem called 'Rainforest Life and Dreams'.
The rainforest is green with its beauty, It is pure and holy like the greatest palace, Where kings and queens roam, In all their unrequited glory, For the rainforest could tell many stories, Stories of love and destruction, Of people walking its depths, And seeing the variety of wildlife, That lingers there, And makes beautiful paintings and photographs, For people to admire and stare. The rainforest is millions of years old, And many tales have been told, Its full depths and mysteries unknown, But the people of the rainforest, Celebrate its beauty with their magical rituals, That are both remarkable and divine, All at the same time, For many people have tales to tell, Tales of history and a mysterious society, Where people of passion and colour wonder the trees, And admire the birds of the forest, And even insects, like bees, For sunlight filters through the tallest trees, And wildlife of all descriptions, Add extra colour to the healing leaves, And when it rains, the whole forest is drenched, And wildlife hide under the forest ground, The life-giving rain the only sound, The sunlight shines through, Such an imagination of beauty, That this must be heaven. By Paula Glynn Activity 1: I want you to write a list of rhyming words from the poem and present it in a table.

Activity 2:
Answer the following questions:
Answer the following questions:
- Why did the poet write 'The rainforest is green with its beauty'?
- What did the poet compare the rainforest with?
- What wild animals do you think live in the forest?
- Why do you think the poet used the phrase 'healing leaves'?
- Why do you think sunlight is important for the forest?
Literacy
For literacy I want you to re-read the first page of our new story 'The Tree of Life'.
Activity 1:
Think about when Agouti saw the tree covered in every kind of fruit you can imagine. What fruit do you think Agouti might like the most and why? Give reasons for your answer.
Activity 2:
Do you think Agouti should tell his family about the tree with all these delicious fruit or should he keep it a secret?
I want you to write what you think using conjunctions in your sentence. For example:
I think Agouti should tell his family because …
I think he should keep it a secret because...

Maths
How did you get on with interpreting data from pictograms? Today you will use keys to present data. A key could be a picture of something showing how many objects it represents. A key tells us how many each picture stands for.
For the first challenge, one green square means 2 animals. See if you can complete the pictogram using the green squares.

Here's a question for you to think about.
Good morning everyone. How are you finding the home learning this week? I would like to share some very creative learning from Ariya and her sister. The city you made out of toilet rolls is brilliant and I love the potato hedgehog. Amira, I think Lydia and Eki would be really impressed with your arts and crafts too. Maddie also sent her lovely drawing of the 'Laugh A-lot Tree' using the description from the poem and she thought that green spaces are very important for us and animals. Well done both of you!

Did you manage to complete the challenges yesterday or create your own pictogram on purplemash? Today, you are going to interpret data which means to figure out what the pictograms are showing.
Well done to Yahya for sharing his fantastic learning from home. I love your drawing of Agouti and the questions you have asked from the story 'The Curious Garden'. You used question marks at the end.
I am going to answer your questions in full sentences. Hopefully you can give me full marks Yahya?
1 . The main character was a little boy called Liam.
2. Liam wondered into an old railway station and stumbled upon a stairwell which led him up to the rail tracks.
3. He saw wild flowers and plants that were dying, he thought they needed a gardener.
4. Liam watered the plants and used his tools to keep it clean. Day by day they grew tall and covered the rail tracks.
5. There were new gardeners that were inspired by Liam's amazing work.

Today I want you read this hilarious poem by Josie Whitehead. The poem is called 'Laugh A-Lot Tree'. Read aloud with expressions. Can you come up with actions to remember the words? Have a go at drawing the tree using the description from the poem.
One beautiful morning on a bright summer’s day
Some children went out in their garden to play.
A new plant was growing, but what could it be?
'It’s too large for a flower. Perhaps it’s a tree.'
The tree seemed to grow at a very fast rate.
By lunchtime its top was as high as the gate.
Its leaves were all colours, not green like the rest.
Of all trees in the garden, it surely was best.
The children next morning quite soon left their beds.
There was fruit on the tree now of yellow and red.
'My goodness,' they said. 'What a wonderful treat!'
So they each picked a fruit and then started to eat.
They soon began giggling then laughing a lot,
But why they were laughing, they really knew not.
Said Father and Mother: 'Oh don’t be so daft.'
Then they ate some fruit and everyone laughed.
They decided they’d give this new tree a good name
For nobody else had a tree quite the same.
After thinking and talking they said: 'We agree,
We really should call it the Laugh-a-Lot Tree.'
From the stone from the fruit, another tree grew.
In a very short time there were more than a few.
Now think! If we all had a Laugh-a-Lot tree,
Well, how very happy our whole world would be!

Today we will read the rest of page one from 'The Tree of Life' book. I wonder what will Agouti find in the dark, deep forest.

How is Agouti feeling when he saw the marvelous tree?
What is he thinking as he stares into the giant tree covered with every kind of fruit?
Can you make some thought bubbles and feelings bubbles for Agouti and write few sentences to show his thoughts and feelings?

Maths
Today we are going to use tally charts to make pictograms. Instead of using numbers we can draw counters or pictures to show how many objects there are and represent data accurately. remember if you are using pictures to show data then you must draw them neatly in a evenly spaced line. Also they need to be same size and shape. Have a go at the challenges below.
You can log into purplemash and go to Tools > 2count to create your own pictogram. I did one about different kind of fruit that people like in my family.
Handwriting
Have a go at some neat join handwriting. Practice doing ir, ay as, er, an, on joins first. Then do single words carefully joining from bottom or top. Copy the sentences in your book. Remember we don't join from capital letters.
Music
Listen to the musician playing a flute called Quenacho. It sounds really peaceful and touches your heart. Can you name the other instrument he is using? People in Amazon rainforest use trees and parts of a plant, seeds, shells to make different musical instruments.
I want to special mention Mohammed for working really hard at home. You have been uploading your work regularly on Purplemash. I like your presentation and the way you have remembered to use partitioning strategies in Maths. Well done Mohammed!
Reading
Listen to the story 'The Curious Garden'.
What did you think of the story? What message do you think the author is trying to give? Would you want to be friends with the boy from the story and why?
Can you write some inference questions to challenge me to see if I have understood the story well. Remember you can start your questions with - Who, Where, When, Why and How.

Literacy
Today we are going to start reading the book. Yesterday, we made predictions about what might happen in the book. Some of you came up with interesting names for the tree. We are going to read only the first paragraph.
So our main character's name is Agouti, who lives in the forest. Draw a little picture of Agouti in the middle of your page and write some things he might hear, see, feel, smell as he walks through the forest. It could be that he smells a sweet scent, feels prickly thorns or heat of the sun, hears birds chirping, tree frogs croaking etc.
Maths
I hope you all know how to use a tally to count set of objects. Remember when you reach 5 you draw a mark or a line across. Today I want you to have a go at the challenges below.
Science
You all know that a plant grows from a seed. I want you to find as many different types of seeds in your house. It could be from the fruit you eat or vegetables that you have for dinner. Collect as many seeds as you can over the next few weeks. You can sellotape them in your books and label them and describe how they look and feel.
Have a look at Maddie’s amazing learning from our class blogs. Maddie, I love your letter that you wrote to Aaliyah. Also your unicorn vehicle looks fantastic. You also made your gratitude jar which will remind you to be thankful for different things. Impressed with your predictions in Literacy today and love the illustration you have done. You will definitely love the book once we start reading. Well done Maddie!
Welcome back Y2. I am so excited to be blogging again. I hope you have all had a good break. I have seen some of you posting comments on purplemash blogs, which is great. If there is anything you have done over the holidays that you would like me to share with others, please send them to Joan. This half term our topic is 'Sowing Seeds'. In this topic we will learn about plants and seeds, and how they grow. In English, we will begin a new story from the Amazon. Can you remember where Amazon Rainforest is located?
Reading
I want you to listen to the story 'A trip to the Rainforest', and then have a go at answering some of the questions. You don't have to write the answers in your book. You can just orally tell your adults the answers.
1. Which country does Maria live in?
2. Why did the children cheer when their teacher told them about the trip?
3. How did the class get to the rainforest?
4. Give one fact that Mrs Fernandez told the children about the rainforest?
5. Give one evidence that shows Pablo isn't feeling very well?
6. Can you think of few noun phrases to describe the rainforest?
7. Why was the rainforest really dark?
8. Why did Mrs Fernandez warn children about the river?
9. Who helped Pablo feel better?
10. Explain why the plants in the rainforest are useful?

This week we are going to learn how to record and organise data using a tally. Tally is a continuous count of something. To tally is to add up, like keeping a score of a game or counting how many apples are there in a tree or how many tocuans you can see in the rainforest using a mark.
Today we will learn to use a tally to represent numbers.
Look at the table showing how numbers are shown using tally. What do you notice?
Today we will learn to use a tally to represent numbers.

Everytime you reach 5 you put a mark or a line across. The total count is 5.
To tally the number 10 you will have IIII IIII and then put a line across on each to make it a 5.
I want you to make a table like this one and represent the numbers using tally.
Can you show 11, 15, 18, 22, 25?
If you learn to use tally it's easier to count bigger numbers because you are counting in groups of 5.
