Our First Week BackOur first week back has been a busy one! The children have been introduced to our key text for this half term, 'The Bear and the Piano' by David Litchfield. They have made predictions about the text based on some objects that relate to the front cover and used the beginning of the story to learn about conjunctions and contractions. This term we will be responding the the text in many ways and they will build the skills to re-write the story with their own characters and settings.
In maths, they have been using their knowledge of base ten to add and subtract, mainly focusing on number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. Topic Homework Our topic this half term is 'Music Makers'! As you will know from the newsletter, we will be listening to a range of different kinds of music and thinking about where different genres originate from and the history of music technology. In Science, we will investigate the science of sound.
This topic take-away menu is optional but can be used as a starting point if you would like to do extra homework with your child. You can also use it to supplement home learning in the case that your family needs to self isolate. If anyone in your family bubble is musical please let us know by sending an email via Joan as we would love your contribution to our learning this half term. Maths HomeworkThis week we have been learning how to represent number bonds using a bar model. This activity will help to consolidate your child's understanding of the bar model. They need to find the value of the blank bar. For example, the answer to the first one is 12 because 12 + 8 = 20. If they are finding it difficult to recall the number facts, they can use a set of 20 objects (pasta pieces, beads, wooden blocks or anything else you have to hand) to solve the problems practically.
ReadingSo that children can practise reading over the weekend, we will hand out reading books on Friday going forward. Please remind your child to hand their book back in by Wednesday so that we have time to disinfect and change the reading books. Many thanks. That's all for now!
If we can support you and your family in any way through Lockdown 2 please don't hesitate to reach out. Have a peaceful weekend, The Year 2 Team. Comments are closed.
