Our Pond Eco-System
As an introduction into animal habitats, we have created a habitat for some water snails. We took the water from the pond outside and have been eagerly observing life underwater ever since!
Talk / draw / write challenges
1) Talk - tell your grown up all about our water habitat - then upload your ideas onto Tapestry, ready to share with us on Monday. 2) Draw - create a piece of artwork that shows our water habitat - then upload to Tapestry or bring into school on Monday. 3) Write - record down your ideas by writing words or sentences - then upload to Tapestry or bring into school on Monday.
Phonics: Blend / read / write challenges
1) Ask your grown up to 'robot' these words, for you to then blend together (see video below for help!) For extra support, show the pictures and you can choose between the three.
2) Read these Phase 2 and Phase 3 words
3) Write these words - remember to 'say the word, robot the word, write the word' Use the sound mats below to help you.
Watch the video below to see how we practise our phonics skills
Winter activity As one of our indoor winter themed activities next week we will be making snow globes. If you have a small glass or plastic jar, please bring it in for your child to use. (Any spares would be greatly appreciated, too!) In reception, the children will learn 45 'high frequency' words throughout the year. Here are three of our first high frequency words. They are a bit tricky as we can't easily use our phonics to decode them. Can you think of a creative way to practise reading and writing them at home?
Here are some ideas...
In order to immerse ourselves in the story we are undertaking some research... This weekend, see what you can find out about brown bears. You may want to think about these questions (but you don't have to answer them all!) Where do they live? What's it like there? What do they eat? How do they catch their food? Do bears have cubs? How do they look after them? You may find these links useful: National Geographic Just Fun facts Andy’s Wild Adventures episode BBC nature Please scribe down any interesting facts your child has found out using these links.
You can send any photos of them undertaking their research to our class email address. Welcome back to the reception blog. Phonics Challenge 1: what sound can you hear at the beginning of these pictures? (pig, pen, net) Can you find that sound on the mat? Challenge 2: can you write these words? Remember 'say the word, robot the word, write the word' You can use our phase 2 phonics mat to help you. Maths
Click on the image below, or scan the QR code, to practise completing repeating patterns. Can you name the shapes you are using? Well done for another fantastic week of learning reception :) Here is our 'initial sound' phonics challenge this weekend. Can you spot all the pictures that begin a 's' sound? If you were confident at this activity, you could try this one, too! Copy and label the pictures using the sounds we have learnt.
Well done for another fabulous week everybody :) We took our first trip out to explore the local area this week with a visit to Ravenscroft Park! The children enjoyed playing imaginative games on the rocks and grass, challenging themselves on the equipment and thinking of their own ways to move around and play games. Writing our names This weekend, have a go at writing your name. Make sure you start with a capital letter, form your letters correctly and check with a name card when you've finished. Here is a mat that shows where we start each letter of the alphabet. Once you've used a pencil, why don't you try painting your name? Or using chalk or wax crayon? You could even try writing it in the mud!
We've had another great week in reception. We read the story 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas, which helped us to explore our feelings. Outside, some of us made a marvellous magical bus out the climbing equipment, and pretended to go up to the moon! We were just like the bear in 'Whatever Next', another story we enjoyed this week. Challenge
This weekend, please take or find a photo(s) of you and your family. Throughout the week we will share with each other who is special to us. Here is a picture of me when I was younger with my family! I look forward to sharing it with you on Monday, and telling you all about the different special people in the photo. Welcome to the first Reception Class Blog post of 2021. The children have jumped straight into their new school term! They have been playing, exploring, problem solving and working together as a team. Well done to everyone for being brave and stepping out of your comfort zones - there have been lots of new faces, activities and experiences. This weekend, have a go at one of these fine motor challenges. I'd love for you to take a photo to send in (we will find out our new email address soon!)
If you tried them all, you could even have a go at creating one yourself... |
