Today is the beginning of a new month! Let's start today by singing the days of the month song. See if you can spot the month July as you sing along..
How many claps can you hear in the month name Ju-ly? Can you stamp it? What other ways can you show the beats?

Phonics

Bingo listening game
Listen carefully to all the sounds below and try and match them with the pictures from the story.  Can you guess the sounds of the cave, snowstorm, forest, mud, river and grass? How many sounds did you guess correctly?
You can print the pictures from below and place counters on each picture as you match the sounds or just point at the pictures while you match them with the sounds you hear.

Picture
Use the answer key to see if you were right: 1. walking through the grass 2. walking through the forest 3.  walking through the mud 4. walking through the snowstorm 5. walking through the cave 6. walking through the river.

Maths

Can you circle the odd one out? First count how many are all together, now cover the odd one out, how many are there all together now? Have a go at drawing  your own odd one out pictures and play it with your family!
Picture

Fine Motor Fun!

This activity is a great way to way relax through tactile exploration as the smoothness calms down the senses. Use objects such as spoons, forks or sieves to see the liquid to powder transition as the gloop dries and becomes cornflour again!
Discussion: How does it feel to you? Have you felt something like this before? How does it go from liquid to powder-is it magic?!

Maths

Make your own 10 frame like the one below, you can make a really big one on the floor using masking tape or draw your own on a large paper or even outside with chalk!

First you will need to go find 10 small toys!

Do you have your number cards to 10 that you made earlier? Have them ready in a pile because in this game you will flip a card over and put *that many* toys into the 10 frame..one toy per square. Repeat as many times as you like with different numbers.

Adults talk about the number with your child, for example:
“Wow, I see you put out 6 toys. How many squares are still open? OH! So 6 and 4 make 10!”

Fine Motor Fun!

Print these out and use your finger or a pencil to trace over the trails carefully, make the animal sounds as you do it!

Our learning for Today:

Phonics

I bet you are so good at re-telling the story of Dear Zoo by now!

Today we are going to be looking at Syllables in words from our story 'Dear Zoo'-that means you are going to practice saying the word and seeing how many claps are in each word!

For example, let's practice clapping the word frog. [frog] That word just has one clap.  Now, let's do puppy..
[pup-py] This word has 2 claps in it.  Have a go at completing the rest of the words below.

LOOK at the picture, SAY the word then CLAP out the word.

Which word has 1 clap?
which word has 2 claps?
Which word has 3 claps?

Try clapping out your name. How many claps does it have? My name has 3 claps. [Fa-hee-ma]

Maths

Today for Maths we would like you to make your own Number Zoo! [Get your Imaginations going!]

Take a look at the example below.

Don't worry if you haven't got any lollipop sticks at home, you can use cardboard,  cereal boxes, straws etc to make the pens. I'm sure you will do an amazing job with the help of your family! Make your little animals for each pen by drawing them on paper and cutting them out, or you can even put in imaginary animals with whatever you have at home. [counters, pasta, beads, seeds, milk bottle lids etc]

**Send in your amazing creations!**
Picture

Fine Motor Fun!

For this activity you will need a tray, some kitchen towel, some colouring pens and a spray water bottle! It's so easy to set up but so much fun watching how the colours get bigger and change shape as you spray water over it! You can draw shapes, numbers, or write the letters in your name, like I'v done below. You can even draw the animals from the zoo! Send in your photos when you've tried this!

Challenge:
Can you  try mixing colours and see what happens..Have fun!

Remember you are all amazing! :)

Happy Tuesday Nursery!

Did you enjoy listening to the Dear Zoo story?

What was your favourite animal in the book? I hope you all had a go at drawing it.

Our learning for Today:

Phonics

Do you remember who was hiding behind each crate? Point to each one below and guess who was behind it. Were you right? You can re-watch the video again to see if you were correct! :)

Take a look at the crates and animals below from the story of 'Dear Zoo'

The Animals need to go back to the Zoo! Can you draw lines to match each character to its crate? We’ve done the first one for you!

You can either print the pictures out or simply drag your fingers across the screen to match, and then get an adult to check! [Please encourage talk with your child about the size, colour and shape of each crate and animal they see]
Picture
Picture
Maths and Fine Motor Fun!

Get some cupcake cases and write the numbers 1-6 in them [Adults can support this stage]. Can you use a tweezer to put in that many objects inside each case? It does not have to be pom poms, can be stones, pasta, or anything small that you can count and fit inside the cases. Remember to count each object as you place them in one by one.

Now, can you find the number that shows how old you are? Have a go at mark making that number on paper or even outside with chalk!
Picture

Please keep sending in your photos, we  love to see how you are getting on with the activities
Keep learning and keep growing!

Enjoy and have a great day! :)
