We had a fantastic parents meeting on Thursday 26th February. We asked the parents to help us evaluate how we have done on our school improvement focus over the last year. Our focus had been the learning and teaching of maths and developing the new curriculum. We worked in groups and asked the parents a range of questions. I will be collating all the answers and producing a summary including points for action. In the meantime, here are some quotes from parents:
"My child is really excited to come to school. He particularly loves maths." "I like it that the children learn about different religions and cultures. They learn to respect each other. I think that is really important." "I love the new playground. There are fewer accidents now and lots of space." "Everyone is really friendly and smiley. The children are very happy." "I like the way the school encourages the parents to do new things. We liked learning to swim and cycling." PE and sport are a very important part of our learning at Virginia Primary School. We know that physical activity makes us feel fantastic and is a crucial part of a healthy lifestyle but it is also a great way of putting our values into action. Here at Virginia we include everybody who wants to have a go in our competitions. Emily works with the teams at lunchtimes and other year groups become involved in coaching and supporting. We go into competitions with a positive mental attitude and most of all, we have fun! Our special mentions during good learning assembly reflect how our ethos is lived out in sport. Here are some examples:
" I would like to mention the year 5 boys team because they always work hard, show respect and show equality! PS wish us luck!" Fred, year 5 "We would like to mention Emily for supporting us and encouraging us during the football competition. She also inspired us to keep practising" Year 5 girls team. "I would like to mention year 6 because when we were playing football against them they showed kindness and inspired us to be great players." Ihsan, year 5. Although we have separate girls/boys teams for competitions, during our lunchtimes and friendlies they are always mixed. This builds real team work and collaboration. We have now completed our football cluster matches against St Elizabeths, Hague, Mowlem, Lawdale, Columbia and William Davis. Our year 6 girls team have gone through to the borough final in March! Congratulations and well done to all our footballers, we are so proud of you. |
