I am never normally lost for words however the outstanding achievement shown by all participating today in the KS2 Girls Cricket competition has left me speechless! Led by amazing captains, Amirah for Team A and Mahek for Team B, the girls showed a fantastic growth mind-set as they battled their way to the finals, improving in every game! All the children put their incredible bowling and fielding skills to use! A special mention to the captains, Labibah and Jannah for their batting in the final and finally to Labiba Yr5 who stepped out of her comfort zone and showed great skill. All the children worked fantastically as part of a team, encouraging each other the whole time. Overall, Team B finished 3rd and Team A won the final against a very strong Marner side. A huge well done to all those involved – I am so proud of you all. Emily PRIMARY PARA GAMES! Today 8 children from Years 2-4 enjoyed the excellently organised Primary Para Games! Trying out lots of different activities over 70 children had a day to remember! Well done to the VPS team who came 2nd place overall and won the Silver Medals!! We were astounded by your excellent teamwork skills and your passion for sport. What a wonderful day! Emily and Louise. ARSENAL vs CHELSEAOn Saturday, Year 6 enjoyed a trip to Wembley to watch the SSE Women’s FA Cup Final! We had the most amazing time, even though the result wasn't the one Emily and the other loyal arsenal fans had hoped for! Chelsea were the worthy winners and the atmosphere was electric! Thanks to Laura, Vaughan and Lucy for coming! Emily FANFEST 2018Today I took 30 children to take part in 'Fanfest 2018' at Redbridge Sports Centre ! The sports festival is open to all primary schools of London from year 3 to year 6. FanFest is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in the London Youth Games, part of School Games. The children had 4 sessions across the day in a range of different sports! The first session was Street Dance which was very cool! Although it was FREEZING, the children and I danced our way through! The second activity was called 'The Media Zone'. We were interviewed by the volunteers about our favourite sports and got the chance to dress up and have some photo fun! Next we went inside to the Athletics session! Here we learnt about Paralympic sports for someone who is visually impaired. This was a great activity where we really had to show our team work skills! Last but not least was the seated volleyball session! I think I can speak on behalf of the children and say this was the firm favourite session of the day! ''I really enjoyed learning how to do the wave!'' - Steven! (Street Dance) ''Today was great!'' - Ibby ''The volleyball was so much fun'' - Amirah ''We had to trust our partner to jump over the hurdles, it was fun!'' - Ayman. Such an active fun filled day enjoyed by all! Emily We have not let the weather get in our way with our PE this spring term! At the start of the term Year 5 enjoyed two weeks of intensive swimming lessons at the Olympic pool with most children now able to swim over 25m! Year 3 had one week of intensive swimming lessons and a lot of children stepped out of their comfort zones and performed very well! Year 6 have been expanding their Handball skills with Theo, whilst Year 4 are receiving cricket curriculum support with the much loved Jahid! Year 5 are now completing hockey sessions with a coach and Year 1 and 2 have worked super hard on their bat and ball skills! This is only a short summary of some of the great PE learning that we take part in here at VPS! Well done everyone! Today, the Tower Hamlets Indoor Kwik-Cricket Competition took place at UEL Sports Dock with VPS Girls Cricket Team feeling hopeful to get a place in the final. VPS started the group stages against St. Mary and St.Micheals with a first great win. The team went on to play Culloden and Manorfeild winning every match which meant they qualified for the Semi-finals! A particular highlight from the Group stage was winning a whopping 91 runs to the oppositions 19! For the semi-final we played the excellent Marner team and it was a very close game! However VPS made it through to the finals due to great batting from Shaheda at the end and superb bowling from Amirah during the game. For the final we had to face the very skilled St.Mary and St Michael’s. I (Emily) selected a strong squad ready for the challenge, and with spirits high in confidence, Team VPS were determined to win! And they DID! The last game was an exciting one but with great batting skill, we won! The team have made the school very proud of this great achievement and hope it continues for the foreseeable future! Special mentions to - Adila – 14 outs overall with a mixture of catching and bowling . Jannah and Labibah for their excellent skilful batting as a pair and Amirah for her outstanding bowling. Thank you to the lovely parent volunteer Shafia who encouraged the girls and kept the coach (me) calm! STARS!! Emily A good effort from the VPS KS2 Boys Cricket Team at the Indoor Kwik-Cricket competition today at the Sports Dock (UEL)! They played 3 matches overall with two losses and a win. The boys were able to identify their strengths and weaknesses from the matches and look forward to the competitions in the summer term! Thanks again to Jahid for organizing the matches in such an exciting location! We now have brand new Sports Leaders! Sport Leaders are children from Year 5 and 6 who apply by writing a speech of application stating why they think they would be an excellent Sports Leader, what skills they can bring to the position and most importantly, why they want to have that role! Sports Leaders assist in class PE lessons, the pitch, the playground by setting out equipment and acting as demonstrators to the rest of the class. They also assist in organizing extra curricular events, sports day, and have lots of other responsibilities! They have already made a great start, with staff commenting on how helpful they have been in the playground. On Friday 17 children from Year 5 and 6 took part in a football friendly against Bigland Green Primary School. Despite the freezing cold weather, all the players gave a hundred per cent effort and the games were played in an extremely friendly manner with both teams showing great respect to each other!
We look forward to arranging more fixtures in the Spring term! Today we had very exciting assembly at Virginia, which involved 13 pupils confidently reading out their speeches in the hope that they will be elected to become a Sports Leader for 2017-2018. Well done to all of you who signed up and made it this far. I am very proud of the content and quality of your speeches. Lots of staff remarked on how well the speeches were delivered, with one or two being quite moving. It is going to be an extremely difficult choice for just 6 pupils to be selected. Tomorrow, the current sports leaders and I will be counting the votes and will be revealing the results at the end of the day. |
